Title: error reding JPG images
Post by: Adam on August 17, 2010, 04:26:07 PM
Saving JPG image in CS5 and QI 209 gives me error. The same image displays normally in all other apps, like Faststone, ACDSEE, etc. Resave as TIF and it's fine.
What's wrong?

Adam,
Would you care to send me the image for a look?

I'd need the original JPG (the one that won't read).  I already know Adobe has problems with their JPEG file format in CS5.  Seems like with each new release of PhotoShop, Adobe always has bugs in their file format that creates incomplete or corrupted headers.  Example: CS5, in some cases, saves EXIF headers with TWO copies of the same tag (resolution for example).  I have one JPEG from CS5 that has two resolutions embedded with two different EXIF 282 tags: the first is 80 PPI and the second is 300.  So take your pick.  :)  So I'm not saying it's CS5's fault before I look at the image, but I think it's highly likely given what I've seen from CS5!

Adam,
Thank you so much for going the extra mile and emailing the image to me.

Checked and rechecked. No problem. The image opens in Ultimate and also in Studio 209.

How about the images in that folder just before the ones that show Image Read Error instead of a thumb.
Maybe you have a corrupted one and it is messing up everything after that one.
Try making a fresh new folder, and move 3  images at a time over from the current folder to the new folder. Keep going until Qimage reports an error. Then pull out those three, and put them into the new folder one at a time until you nail the bad one.

Hi,
I moved all images from Desktop to a new folder and then they read okay in QI. Moved them back to Desktop again and voila they were okay also.
Puzzling to me what happened.
Will keep an eye on this brhaviour.
