Hi,

Just been experimenting with adding text in border. If I add floating text, and then rotate the image, the text rotates too, but not maintaining position wrt image, and the size of the text increases. Is this the same for you?

Yes but ....
First make sure the Image orientation lock is off (padlock on main screen below page peview)
Then select in the image in the Full Page Editor and in the Floating Text dialogue click Link to Print. That should make sure the text maintains its position wrt the image.

Hi Terry,

That's what I had, but text changes as I mentioned -(v 2010.209). Not used text before, so may be just wrong in later versions.

Best wishes,

I'm using v209 and all seems ok. Font size does not change and text follows image round as expected, see attached below.
Or am I misunderstanding you?

Hi Terry,
Thanks, Terry, for giving it a try.

It seems to be related to selecting a custom print size, too. In fact if I crop to fit, when I rotate it (2 x ccw/cw =180 degrees) the image is smaller than the custom size,  and text goes off the page. If I rotate it the full 360 degrees, image is still smaller than custom size, and text is much larger than original. I would expect a 360 degree rotation to bring everything back to the original size. I have no idea why the text size should change, but its position seems as if it's somehow related to the custom size (almost as if that is rotated - but the custom size frame does not rotate - only the image and borders (if any) and text rotates). This is using the ccw/cw arrows on the fp editor screen.

The text size and position change is obvious when it happens, and can be deleted and re-entered, the image size change is more annoying, and may not even be noticed. I can see it as a problem if manually fitting a number of different sized images onto a page, and trying some landscape, others portrait, and having to change a few back again.

If you can't replicate it, I'll post some screen shots later.

Best wishes,

Hopefully I've linked to the images OK.

p1 is the original, with text in border, fitted to custom size www.yertiz.com/pic0608/q/p1.jpg

p2 is rotated 90 deg ccw - text is out of place www.yertiz.com/pic0608/q/p2.jpg

p3 is rotated 180 deg - text out of place, image shrunk from original size www.yertiz.com/pic0608/q/p3.jpg

p4 is 270 deg, result more or less as p2 www.yertiz.com/pic0608/q/p4.jpg

p5 should be the same as p1, imho, since all that has happened is the image has been rotated 360 degrees. www.yertiz.com/pic0608/q/p5.jpg  but the image size has changed and text enlarged. All that has happened from the original (p1) is to hit the rotate arrows a few times.

This seems very odd behaviour to me, does it behave the same for you?

Best wishes,

Hi Ray,
I cannot reproduce what you have in any way.
You have a custom size is specified: 81x110 mm but also I see Template positioning is selected yet there is just the one pink rectangle in the middle of the page. I can't work out how you got there because with that position method andd 81x110 I get 4 templates on an A4 page, not 1.
Why you are using Template positioning?  I suspect this is the source of your problem, the image is rotated within the 88x110 template to fit into it and thus changes the image size as it is rotated.
I rarely use this position method.

I used Center positioning, I suggest you do the same and there will not be a problem and it's a simpler way of using Qimage.

There is often a problem in replicating the actions to get to the same result. However, I think there is a generic problem with 'rotation'. Again, the steps you take to get to the result may not be the same as others, but here's a simple one. (bear in mind I rarely use the image editor - so there may well be a 'hidden' feature to do this.

Open an image in landscape in the image editor. Hit either the 'R. left' or 'R. right' buttons. Image rotates to portrait mode, as expected. Now, try to get it back to landscape. The most I can do is to rotate the image 180 degrees, still keeping portrait mode. I cannot return the image to landscape. I would expect something 'more standard' to occur, such as rotating the image 90deg per button press. e.g. repeat hitting the 'R.left' button always steps the image 90 degrees.

fwiw, I found the similar idiosyncrasy in the few hours I played with ultra - but in the rotate buttons in the full page editor.

Best wishes,

Ray

Not hidden exactly, the angle is shown. The rotation is relative to the original orientation. Look at the angle in the little box, Rotate Left gives -90; Rotate Right gives 90. That's all it will do, not make the image go round and round.
If you want a different angle, either enter it directly or File/Open Parameter from File and choose one of the the {Q} filters that are there, which includes mirror.
The Full Page Editor is different and you can make the image go round & round providing the Orientation Lock is Off.
I don't know why the image editor is different with the operation of the rotation arrows, it's probably there just to cope with images where there is no rotation flag in them and the orientation is wrong.
If an image is a jpeg, there is a lossless rotation feature that appears in the menu bar that covers all the options in 90deg steps.

Hi Terry,

Thanks - I guess that is why in the image editor, 'tis not the familiar green arrows. Bit of a nuisance, 'tho, can't seem to get it back to how it was. It's just something else I'll have to try and remember...

What I've found with the floating text, is to add it as the last thing, just before printing. Any subsequent moving/rotation/resizing of the image can make text disappear, or resize and/or go out of position.

I'm basically wanting to write some information on the back of a canvas wrap, and I've not checked if it will be saved with the job - I expect it will. I reckon it would be trivial to produce a greetings card template - I expect that would interest you Grin (I bet you've done it)

Just enter zero in the angle box, 'tis easy.

Been there done that and shown it on this forum a few months ago. 2 per A4 sheet double sided complete with upside down images & text.
Not as trivial as you might think  Shocked

I don't know whether to laugh or cry. I never noticed that box.... Huh? But, if that is possible to enter any angle, I fail to understand the r. left/r. right requirement not to go 'all the way'.

Still, never mind.

You ought to use it more often then, there's a lot of features, get you head around the Selective Colour tab, then you really will get your money's worth.  Grin

Depends on whether you want multiple lines of related text, with equal spacing vertically between the lines (eg for an address) ... I asked for this years ago, and was told to wait for the floating text improvements which as far as I know never materialised. You could align the horizontal starting points of lines, but not make the spacing between lines the same. I did create a template, but had to resort to manually editting the numbers in the template by trial and error to work out which number controlled what. I haven't changed the templates since creating them.
