Hi everyone,

My PC had a major software corruption and I have to do a clean re-install of Windows and all my software. I use Carbonite to back up files, but I don't know if my saved jobs were among them, and whether or not they will be recovered as I do the recovery process. I am pretty sure they are gone. Where are they saved in Windows 10, 64 bit? I did a search there for all files ending with .job and got no hits. And if they are lost, I want to tell Carbonite to back them up from here on out.

Hi Liz,
The usual place for Qimage Ultimate is:-
C:\ProgramData\ddisoftware\Save.

If you are still using Studio Edition (the section you posted in), then it may be different, I cannot remember!
I think I'm right in saying the QSE had in the Utilities menu the ability to "Explore Application data" which takes you to the location.
Also, if you click Save or Recall the location is visible there.

Hi--Posted in the wrong place... I am using Ultimate, latest version.  So, anyway, it appears all my saved jobs are lost. Sigh.

Hi Liz,
sorry to hear you were not able to recover your saved jobs.
I'd recommend you backup everything, not just "files". I use EaseUS Todo Backup software and backup to local hard drives on a schedule. I have a SSD C-drive and data files are on a separate D-drive. One or the other are backed up every day using both a weekly and monthly schedule so nothing is more than a day old and and I can go back one month too.

Actually I do back up everything via Carbonite, though as you said, it mainly does files, not settings. It backs up to the cloud every time a new file is added to my PC, so I never have to think about it, and as we speak it is restoring everything, back to their original locations on my C drive.  In fact, the only things I lost in this crash are my Qimage jobs, so if I back up that folder from here on out I will be happy enough with my setup. I don't like the idea of relying on an external hard drive, because they can be stolen, and I like the idea that I can access my files from anywhere I can go on line, if need be (I also use the free version of Dropbox and pay $2/month for extra space in Google Drive).

Hi Liz,
I don't think from what you say that is actually "everything".
QU saved items are not "regular" files, they are in program data as are many other sets of files for many programs.
Easus Todo backs up the whole of the C-drive, programs, registry, data files, images documents, .... the lot. If the drive fails, I can transfer to a new HDD if required.
Unless you do that you risk losing important data, not only for QU but other programs too.
I like to have my data under my control as well as being faster than cloud storage (certainly in the UK). A friend of mine keeps his archive of images in a safe! I wouldn't go that far though.

Hi Liz,
Terry emailed me to add some extra thoughts since we both use EASUS TODO backups.
You can make full images of your hard drive (C:\) which in the event of a hard drive crash, you simply insert your boot CD and select the back up file. RESTORE.... to a new drive, and in an hour or so, you are sitting in front of your regular computer, all restored, and ready to go.

If you just need a file, (as I did yesterday when I sent my QU ini file to ini heaven when I made a fresh start to help a fellow whose Qimage would not start), and it took a minute to go into by latest backup and restore my Qimage-u.ini file. I locate the ini file, right click, and select RESTORE to ORIGINAL Location.
Sometimes, I mess up fooling with a Raw image and overwrite my qrs file. I simply find the previous one in mt backup, and restore.
See snap just to give you the idea.

Good Job Liz.
You will see that you have many options, but system backup is primary. Some people like Terry, because he has a Solid State drive might do a C and a D backup as one. 

I do a SYSTEM Backup plus a weekly Pictures backup from C to another drive. Your system backups  MUST be saved on any drive other than C.

Hi Fred, I am still restoring files from Carbonite, but once that's done I will install this. I have a single HD PC--will I have to buy an external hard drive?

Hi Liz,
It really is pointless to save a backup on the same drive that you are saving. If the drive gets corrupted, or has a mechanical failure, you lose the computer drive and the backup file.
You can easily buy a 2 Tb drive for 65.00 US on Amazon, or any other place.  Add a 2 drive USB 3.0 docking station for about 35.00, or get 2 1 Tb drives...
You will make it back in 2 years of Carbonite, because their 60.00 a year plan doesn't even cover a computer system backup. You have to move up to get that.

The only thing I know about Carbonite is that in Star Wars, Lando Callarisian sold out his friend Han Solo and froze Han Solo in Carbonite. Then he gave the frozen Han Solo to Jabba the Hut as a payoff on a debt he owed.

... and that's why I am leery of Carbonite.

Personally I am leery of Kryptonite, but Carbonite doesn't faze me!

So I just ordered a 1 TB Seagate HD for about $55 on Amazon (1 TB is plenty for me). I will still keep Carbonite, because I like having cloud backup as well (plus I am mid-subscription). Do you and Terry get a commission from this sale? At 10% that would be $1.74 split two ways--nothing to sneeze at!

Truth be told, we do get commission.
We each get a coupon for 6 frozen egg rolls redeemable at any super market.
The problem is that Terry has to pay a VAT tax in the UK which amazingly comes to $0.87 cents.
I have to pay for insufficient postage on the envelope; 0.88 cents.
Grumpy Jeff always puts his two cents in, so Terry makes a penny profit and I break even.
Well, I had to convert my British penny from Jeff to a US penny, and my bank has a flat fee of 19.99 for any conversion.

Mike resolved the problem by giving the bank fellow a year's upgrade s of QU if the bank guy would wave the conversion fee.
Things are not always as simple as they seem.

I realize I spelled "faze" wrong in my prior post, and I can't leave a misspelling (or in this case, a homophone) uncorrected, or my computer will crash again, and I will have to reinstall Windows and all my software all over.
