Title: Qimage Stopped Working Post by: sputnik47 on January 23, 2010, 03:15:10 PM For the last couple of months whenever I started Qimage Studio Edition I would get the following error:
“Qimage was not shut down properly last session. Since you are running Windows Vista, please be Sure your Windows default printer has been updated to the latest Vista compatible driver. Incompatible printer drivers can cause lockups/crashes. How would you like to start this session?” I would select Normal start and everything was OK. Occasionally, I would select reset, with the hope that things would get repaired. The next start of Qimage I would get the same thing. Last week I got the bright idea that maybe something got corrupted in Qimage and decided to delete everything and start from scratch with a new install. After the reinstall when I tried to start Qimage I got the following series of error messages: “Qimage was not shut down properly last session. Since you are running Windows Vista, please be Sure your Windows default printer has been updated to the latest Vista compatible driver. Incompatible printer drivers can cause lockups/crashes. How would you like to start this session?” RESET “Are you sure…..” YES “Would you like to take the Qimage Quick Tutorial?.....” NO “Qimage.exe has stopped working. Windows is checking for a solution to the problem…” “Qimage.exe has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.” “Exception eprinter in module Qimage.exe at 00038FDE Operation not supported on selected printer.” Following the instructions in the Qimage's Troubleshooting section, I downloaded and installed new drivers from Canon. Qimage started working again! Problem solved, or so I thought. Today, I tried to start Qimage and I'm back to the same error messages. I've tried to start Qimage in "safe mode" by holding down the shift key, to no avail. I've changed default printers - no luck. I'm not sure what else to try. System info: Vista 64 with all the latest updates 8GB Ram Canon S800 and Canon MX860 Thanks in advance, Steve Title: Re: Qimage Stopped Working Post by: Fred A on January 23, 2010, 05:13:59 PM Quote Following the instructions in the Qimage's Troubleshooting section, I downloaded and installed new drivers from Canon. Just a quick question. After installing the new 64 bit driver as your new Canon driver, and it worked....,, is it possible that the next session, you did a RECALL Printer setup and loaded a setup for the printer that still used the old driver? You're a genius! I reinstalled the new Canon driver, removed and reinstalled Qimage, this time Qimage started. While I was going through all of the parameters, i.e., profiles, etc., I noticed that Qimage asked me if I wanted to use the printer properties that were in effect the last time I used that printer profile. This time I made sure to answer no. I then manually entered everything. I quit Qimage and was able to restart it without any problems. Hopefully this will continue. Thanks again, Steve Title: Re: Qimage Stopped Working Post by: Fred A on January 23, 2010, 07:34:46 PM Quote You're a genius! Nah! Just lucky! Now if I could tell who will win the playoff games tomorrow, then...... maybe Fred Title: Re: Qimage Stopped Working Post by: sputnik47 on April 30, 2010, 01:03:41 AM Well, I'm back in the same boat again, except nothing I do gets Qimage working. I've deleted printers, installed printers, changed default printers, reinstalled drivers, deleted and reinstalled Qimage, all to no avail. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the Canon MX860 network printer since I never had a problem with the old S800 that I use with Qimage exclusively. The error is always the same this time:
Exception Eprinter in module Qimage.exe at 0003944E. Operation not supported on selected printer. I'd really like to get Qimage working again - I'm going through severe withdrawal and I've run out of ideas. Steve, Can I assume that you did the RESET PRINTER found in Qimage Help which apparently cured the problem back in January? What is different in your set up from January 23 to yesterday? Fred Title: Re: Qimage Stopped Working Post by: sputnik47 on April 30, 2010, 06:42:15 PM Hi Fred,
Yes I did everything as in January, including the Reset Printer. Nothing has changed to my knowledge. Same driver, same everything. Can't figure this one out. Steve Title: Re: Qimage Stopped Working Post by: Fred A on April 30, 2010, 07:29:00 PM I did some googling and found quite a number of reports of your problem.
It appears that various apps produce the error message so we can safely say that the application is not at fault. I am going to paste one of the fixes that seemed to sound like it worked. Bear in mind that the application name has no meaning, so use Qimage or whatever you like. Give it a try and let us know. Fred his error message is uncommon, but easily corrected: 1. Click the Windows Start button and select Settings | Printers. 2. Right-click on any printer (other than the current default printer) and select Set as Default. 3. Run the Relocation Assessor software database (see Running Assessor Series® Applications). 4. Repeat steps 1-2 and reset the appropriate printer to be the default printer. You should now be able to run and exit from the Relocation Assessor software database without receiving the error message again. Thanks for the input. I've tried selecting a different default printer many times to no avail. I've spent the morning troubleshooting and have gotten Qimage working again, at least for the moment. This is what I did: 1. I removed every trace of Qimage from the computer 2. Deleted the network printer 3. Reset the old S800 as the default printer 4. Reinstalled the MX860 5. Updated the drivers for the MX860 6. Reinstalled Qimage 7. Was able to start Qimage I don't know why it worked or what I fixed this time, but for the time-being, Q works and I'm back in business. Thanks for your help, Steve Title: Re: Qimage Stopped Working Post by: Fred A on May 01, 2010, 07:04:34 PM Quote I don't know why it worked or what I fixed this time, but for the time-being, Q works and I'm back in business. Based on the principle that Qimage checks first for a valid working printer, that would explain why it is working now.Good job. Fred |
