Mike-

Here's the scenario:

QI loads, splash screen, thumbs load then the lt. blue box with "QImage.exe has stopped working."  Then all the please wait, etc. and closes

I have:
1. Did a system restore to two days ago.
2. Uninstalled QI
3. Cleaned DDI and QI out of the registry
4. Renamed the QI DIR to XQImage
5. Rebooted.
6. New install

It came up in demo mode, but where did it get the info that it didn't sutdown properly last time?

And, it went right back into the open and crash routine.

Three questions:

(1) What did you do between the time Qimage last worked and when it stopped working?  Install anything?  Change anything?

(2) What OS are you running?

(3) Have you tried starting Qimage with the shift key held down?

1.  Windows updates and Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0

2.  Windows 7 RC

3.  Okay, just did.  It loaded just fine--with file names.  A soon as I clicked to show as Thumbs, it went back to "...stopped working."

Did you install this under a different account than you are running it under right now?  That can cause file access problems.  My recommendation would be to:

(1) Back up any of the following files first if you like.

(2) Use Explorer to delete the Qimage install directory (usually \program files\qimage) and all subfolders.

(3) Use Explorer to delete the Qimage application data folder (usually \programdata\ddisoftware in Vista.  Not sure about Windows 7).  If you need to, search for a folder named "ddisoftware" on your system and delete that folder and all subfolders.

(4) Reinstall Qimage under the user account that you want to use to run Qimage.  Do not install under an admin account unless you plan to run Qimage under the Admin account.

Hi Mike-
It works, but installed differently than last night.  No, not a different account.  Same one I always use.

This time I only deleted what you said.  Did not bonk the registry info.  I did, however, delete all shortcuts, then drug a new one to the Start Menu directly from the QI folder in Program Files.

(BTW-Windows 7 is using the same folder system as Vista.)

THIS install said it was migrating data as though I was on an old version.  From where?  I had been using .268 since you released it.  Wierd.

Also, it lost my R2400.  Said it could not find the drivers.  So, I deleted the printer (Win & interface is changed and PITA) then re-installed.  It came up as Copy1.  Now QI sees R2400 and R2400 Copy 1. :-\ :-\
And, it opened with the last printer profile I used before all this happened.  (You ARE hiding something Grin Grin Grin).  For some reason my Oki 3600 PCL is there but the ICCs are gone.  Easy fix.

Will QISE work in 64-bit mode?  I have that 7 RC in 64 also, so am thinking of going there to use all the RAM installed.

If it came up with any prior settings, either you didn't get all the files/folders when you deleted the folders I specified or you restored some old data somehow.  If you were running a 64 bit version of Vista prior to this, your Qimage installation folder would have been program files (x86)\qimage.  If you didn't delete that folder, that's probably where the migration and settings came from.  Also, Qimage doesn't hide files but Vista does hide files!  If you ran a pre v2009.250 version under Vista, Vista will have hidden all sorts of files (Qimage settings) in your virtual store.  Whenever Vista can't write to a folder because of user rights, it just shoves them all in a virtual store and makes it look like the files were actually stored in that folder when they were not: they were relocated.  So those are the possibilities.

And yes, Qimage runs fine on all Windows 64 bit operating systems.

I haven't run the 64-bit yet.  Drivers are starting to be in good supply so I am contemplating.

Yes, two things happened: I did run an earlier version under Vista.  The virtual store was packed with stuff.  Now that I found the work around to keep it from doing that, it shouldn't be a problem with other software either.  Well, shouldn't, but you know MS.
