Title: Resizing
Post by: Wanderer on September 22, 2011, 03:39:26 PM
I want to print a panorama appx 71 by 17 inches long on my Epson 3800.  This length is longer than the driver permits but, I understand that there is a hack that increases the length limitation of the Epson driver.

I am not having success in resizing the image to a file to the length I want in Qimage using Hybrid interpolation to upsize.  I suspect this is because Qimage recognizes the Epson driver.

I should be grateful if someone could indicate a way round this, other than using Photoshop CS5 for the interpolation.

Thanks

Wanderer

Until someone comes along with the specific answer, you may find a clue somewhere in here -  http://www.ddisoftware.com/qimage-u/learn.htm

Or try  putting 'panorama' in the search box towards top of this page

Best wishes,

Ray

If you are trying to interpolate the image before sending to print, that's not necessary when using Qimage to print; Q does that as it sends data to the printer.
You just need the specify the finished print size in inches, let Q do the work of interpolation to the optimum resolution - it knows! You must forget what you have to do in CS5 and the like to get a print size and think Qimage and only inches  ;).
If you are specifying the finished print size, then it may well be the driver that's not letting you do it - it presumably will not let you specify a paper size (length) greater than its limit.
There are some users 3800 users here and I'm sure someone will come in and advise further. You don't say what the print length limit is for the 3800, less than 71 inches I assume?

More info'
The Epson 3800 has a length limit of 37" and no "banner" mode in the driver. The latter fact will not allow Qimage to print longer, unless there is some other trick available.

Edit:
Just done some searching:
You are stuck with the length limit it seems, see an earlier thread http://ddisoftware.com/tech/printers/epson-3800-or-3880/
Wrong printer for larger pano's  :o unless you buy an expensive RIP.

And another thread here http://ddisoftware.com/tech/printers/epson-3880-printing-beyond-44%27-limitation/

Greyscale,

This was the software to which I referred.

I am still looking for a workaround to resizing in Qimage Studio so that I can print using this facility in Photoshop in CS5.

Can I fool my PC and Qimage that I have a larger printer and then do the resizing to file?

No workaround is required - it does it, it's one of the main features.  ::)
Place the image in the queue, right click on the page preview and choose Convert.
Click the dot Add to/Replace existing filters,
In the dialogue that pops up, change the resolution, near the bottom of the dialogue.
Click done, make sure the file type and colour space data is set as you want and then OK.#
That's all there is to it  ;)

No! The driver is the driver for your printer!
If it had banner mode you'd be ok. but not so for the 3800
