Post by: Fred A on July 04, 2009, 11:07:57 AM
 ;)
Well, I might as well be the first to post a Welcome SE people!!
Welcome!
Once we get used to all of this new stuff...the sharing of info and the solutions to problems should be easier and quicker.
Best to you all.

Actually, Fred, those of us that said it's less convenient have used forums before; how else would we know?

I would think most users with any computer saavy and i-net experience will be be in "rock-and-roll" mode quickly. Modify the profile and go with it.

My only hope (prayer ;D) is that folks learn how to edit quotes to just the relevant lines.  It is SO easy (it was on Yahoo and didn't happen) to do.

But some of us many be very slow ;)
So you and the others will give better answers to a lot of the question asked  :)  ;)

Actually, Seth, you can see how subjective that question and answer might be. To lump "those of us" is a bit premature.
My point is that this *is* my first forum, and I am learning from the ground up with no preconceived notions before I try.
I have to agree with Mike and others, that once I click "NOTIFY" I get an email anyway if I want one. The rest is in sensible categories that are alive; growing with more posts and new threads all the time.
If there's a post to a thread topic that is of little or no interest to me, I just don't open it. If I need to find a post that had a good "how to" in it, I can find that with a simple search.
I never could do that with the thousands of Usergroup emails I had.
Thank you for the opportunity to exchange thoughts.

My only wish is that this forum does turn into like a lot of other forums are.
We all are learning and some of us will make mistakes, I for one  :)
It may take time, but I think this forum has a great start to be one of the best!

The main ingredient that will make this forum work is the fact that the "moderator/owner" is hands on and explains why.... this is so, and that is not so.
That keeps the number of flare ups to a minimum.
Other forums, have absentee owners, with moderators who screen language and rule bending only.
This baby has all its "shots", has its formula, a nice blankey, a Teddy bear, and a lot of nice people who will watch over it.:)

I like the way I can immediately see if there are new (=unread by me) threads in a particular section. At first I thought I'd miss getting group digests delivered to my inbox, but it's not actually a huge effort to click on the Tech Corner link in my Firefox toolbar to see what's up!

P.S. How many posts are required before I am no longer identified as a "newbie"?

OK, I give up. What do you do to have the quotes from the previous message(s) appear in a grey box?

In the top right of the message you are reading, you'll see "Quote".  Click that and then just type below what appears in the text editor.

Or in the Post reply screen, click on the quote icon: second from the right end in the second row of buttons. That will insert the quote controls and leave the cursor between them.

Yes, thanks, Fred also told me about that method. I like it even better because then I can put in that space only what I choose to quote.
