This should be fun, and a challenge to your eye and your color coordination.

Opinions/Help  from wives, daughters, or grand daughters is permitted, and welcomed!

The challenge is easy!
Select a proper color for your mat (border) from the colors within the shot/image!!!
Use the eye dropper in the Mat screen to make your selection, and then use EDIT MAT to make changes.

Let's see some samples from your masterpieces....
Have Fun!!

Here's my contribution.
Some of the borders are quit subtle (narrow), ok for print but may not all show up very well here.

If you look closely, you can see, in Terry's sample, the lower two actually have three colors selected from the image.
Use your imagination!

Fred,

But for your "challenge", I wouldn't have bothered with borders.

I watched and listened to the two videos and tried.  I've had some fun.  But I was able to save it once.  Never again have I been able to save.  I don't know what I did to save and I can't find the instructions.

Best,

Hi Vlady,
There are two ways to save your creation.
By the way, that is a very pretty image with the borders enhancing the effect!

1) Simple way: Save the JOB... Click File, Save, click the "J" button to make sure you are in the Job mode, Name it, and SAVE.
This is easy and wonderful for printing and recovering your work to print again.

2) This method is more permanent.   Print to FILE.
Click the FILE menu, or the Cheater Menu and invoke Print to FILE.
Answer the questions, page size, color space, and Do not change size.
Then go to the print button and print as if it was paper.
If you leave the RIP box unchecked, you get the full page as it looked on the preview panel.
If you check the RIP box, then the image is RIPPED off the page including the borders.

See attached snaps and you can see the difference.
The first one is the preview panel.  105 is the RIP box checked, and 106 is unchecked.

If you would like a video to make it easier to follow, be happy to make one for you and email it.

Let me know how you make out.

Not only that, when a job is printed, to printer or to file, QU saves the job automatically.
Make sure Auto job logging is set, see screen shot below. Auto saved Jobs are recovered via the file menu: "Open automated job log".
Rather than save a Job, I will often save a Session. This leaves printing options open as only the page set up and images are recovered.

Terry,

Thanks for your information.  I will go back and work on it and let you know how I succeed.

I'm still puzzled how I was lucky once and got a jpg.

Thanks for the comments on the photo.   It was taken in a "cultural restaurant" in Siem Reap, Cambodia, when visiting Ankgor Wat.

Again,  thanks loads.

Fred and Terry,

Thanks for all the help.  I think that I have the knack of it, but will have to practice more.

I'm especially glad to the instructions about "print to file" because this is my usual procedure.  I print files either on campus or through a commercial printer.

Here are two different photos of the dancer.  This is the 3rd try for attachment and I hope I have them small enough this time.

Again, thanks,

Fred & Terry, this is my first attempt to post a photo.
This is one of my favourtite shots of an everglade resident here in South East Queensland Australia.
The Photo Mat feature really adds to the print.
Keep up the good work on a great program.

John,

Not only a great shot, but also excellent framing.  I have a better insight to use of color and width.  Only hope I can do it.

Thanks,

greetings,

I've continued to experiment and learn more about matting with QI.  However, I wonder if I'm still doing something wrong.

I have a problem of placing an image on the template.  Here is my procedure:
1) check that I have free-style
2) click on template and then drag it over free style
3) go to image and drag it to the template.

It can take 7 or more drags of image to template before the image actually pops in.
I do clear queue and start the sequence over each time.

Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.  Struggling with this for a couple of days.

Anyone else having this problem?

Thanks,

Vlady

Hi Vlady,

I have a problem of placing an image on the template.
There are indicators on the screen to show where the image will land when dragged to a template.
See screen shots below.
238 shows the image being dragged so that it does NOT land in the template, indicated by the dotted lines
239 shows the eventual position of the image, same as the dotted lines.

235 shows the cursor correctly positioned for the image to land in the template, ie. NO dotted lines
240 show the result with the image in the template.
Hope this helps,
Terry

Hi again Vlady,
It has occurred to me to ask what are you trying to do with templates?
If you are continuing to use that method to make uneven borders, then you need to know it has been superseded and improved.
See the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rl8Q4fP7rYM&feature=youtu.be&hd=1
All you need to do is add the image to the queue, right click on preview or page editor and use the "Photo Mats" menu item.

Terry,

Your last reply solved my problem.  By avoiding the template in the first place, I've been able succeed every time.

I don't know why I have such trouble dragging an image to the template and have it appear, but I do.

Now I don't have to even think about the template.

Thanks for your advice.

Best,

Vlady
