Title: Challenge # 36-Resize an 11 X 14 multi border print to 8 x 10 in 10 seconds
Post by: Fred A on December 01, 2014, 11:39:32 AM
...and keep the borders correctly sized!

Many times, I make an 11 x 14 print on A3 Epson Ultra Luster paper, and was asked for an 8 x 10 copy.
Whether you make the 8 x 10 right then, or a week later recalling the 11 x 14 from the JOB LOG, you can resize to a smaller size in under 10 seconds.
No need to redo the print and redo the borders for the smaller print.

In this challenge, I made an 11 x 14 and added 2 borders (mats) around my picture. (The white mat is .1 thickness, and the dark blue is .2 thickness.)

Snap 019 shows the 11 x 14 with borders in the PAGE EDITOR where I applied the mats.

Snap 018 shows a simple right mouse click, sliding to  NEW SIZE, and selecting 8 x 10.

What's that? It didn't work?   You got it all messed up?

Oh I forgot to mention the little secret trick!

See 020. You must be sure the outer mat is selected. You click on the image watching the red corner markers until they show the outer mat selected.
Now change the size as in 018.

Now change the paper size to letter size (8.5 x 11) in the driver.
Done!  See snap 016.,

PS I should mention that you can enlarge too. Go from 8 x 10 to 11 x 14. Just reverse the procedure....    Change paper size first!!

Yes, that's easy too.
See screen shots below going from a print with mat borders on A4 paper to one on A3.
The trick is to select the outer mat to re-size; if that seems tricky, select it in the Queue tab.

Terry,

The images seem blurred.  I can't read the type providing the title.  Not to be a smart-aleck, but it hurts my eyes.

Vlady,
I would guess the blur is a casualty of low resolution  when saving a screen snap.
We are constrained by the forum to keep the byte size very low.
That, coupled with the fact that Terry types in British.... well you can see...

That is correct. It was the Page Preview on the main screen where text with shadow always looks a little odd - OK when printed though.
The QU screen information text, page size etc. is clear.

Thanks,

The last image is clear even if I can't read the title.  I was trying to identify the place.

At least I understand the problem now.

Best,

Vlady

Hi Vlady,

I was trying to identify the place.
It was taken at Draycote Water, Warwickshire UK. The Village across the water is Thurlaston.
See attached image, download it, open in QU and look at "Display Image Info". I've geo-tagged it so click the blue globe icon to open Google maps.

Terry,

Many thanks for the image and information.  I like the varied English landscapes and try to identify where they are.  I have a better sense of your image and the surroundings--in the Birmingham - Rugby area.

Of course, when on QI I'm studying the technical aspect of photography and what advice you and others provide.

Best,

Vlady
