Title: Add Print Date & Time to "Print file info"
Post by: JustGeorge on August 21, 2017, 03:41:47 AM
As I play with different papers and edits, and sometimes several days pass in between, it would be useful to include the print date & time to the exif info, but maybe as a separate option.  i.e. "Detailed info (EXIF)" and a separate choice of "Detailed info (EXIF) with print timestamp", or maybe a separate "Print timestamp" but allow both to be checked?

A distant second choice would be to add this option to the Image Effects -> Info Stamp.

This should be easy-peasy compared to all the other magic you've done!  ;)

Hi George,
As far as I can tell, all you are wishing for is already in Qimage Ultimate.
ALL the exif data plus more IPTC if needed is available to be placed on the print anywhere; including in the borders/margins using Floating text.
See 062 and 063 and 064 screen snaps.  ... and in any color you want.

Print info stamp (found with a check box in the image editor) also contains the information to be put inside the image if you wish.

See screen snap 065.
Take your pick...

Fred

PS. Terry just called me that he thinks you want the date you made the print; not took the shot.
I look for that a lot when I wonder if I gave a person a a print last time I visited.
I just use Auto job log and there it is.
I can search for the image number, or if not printed long ago, just scroll the list and watch the thumbnails as they flow by.

Hi Fred,

Yes, Terry was correct, I'm looking for the print date.

I know I can manually type it in on the full page editor (or use cut/paste for multiple prints), I was just hoping for a lazy man's push-one-button option.   :)  I'm guessing I'm the only one who would like to see this, so not much push for it to be added.

Thanks for the reply.  (Which is marked as 5:52am!!  I hope that's my time, not yours!)

Hi George,
Yes, it's my time. I am an early riser.

It is rare that I need to remember when I printed something. It does come up.
By the way, never say, "Terry was right". His hat will not fit for a week.

Most of my friends died of old age, and all I have left are my amazing doctors that keep me going.
I have a couple of panos hanging in the local Cancer clinic, and from then on, the doctors ask for prints.... landscapes, animals, etc.
I have three docs that want prints. I forget which prints I gave to what doctor and when.
So I need  date last printed that one.
So I open auto job log which is filed by date/time, locate that print, and I have what I need.
It doesn't happen often enough for me to want the print date on every print.
Make more sense now?

I am not saying your idea is bad or of no use. It is fine if others want it, and Mike gets a deluge of yesses.
My thought was I do not know that I might need the print date when I print.  It only comes up after some brain freeze on my part.
So logic then says, it should be on all prints.

So what's your story? Brain freeze too?

Fred

Fred

You're assuming facts not in evidence:  brain freeze requires a brain!  ;D

I'm still in learning mode when it comes to post processing, as well as using QU.  In addition to current photography, I'm also trying to salvage, via scanning, lots of old photos (slides, negs & prints) that have been sorely abused over many years due to poor storage conditions after several moves.

I'll get a print I like at a certain point in time, learn some more pp stuff and QU techniques, then re-print to see if I've made any improvements.  Over time, there might be several such iterations.  A print date would help in keeping track of those improvements (for some relative value of "improvement"  ;)  )

Obviously, you're more organized than I am.  If I did have that purported brain, my images would be more organized.  However, over time I change my mind about my storage options due to evolving technique (note I didn't say "improving") and growing collection -- or just changing my mind about a file category.  The starting file folder might be 1979, then maybe eventually sub-divided into months, eventually some moved to other 1979 categories.  So relying on "Jobs" isn't going to work.

I agree, I don't want that info on the final print, would just turn it on during the refining process.  Once I get a print to my satisfaction, I'll make a copy of the digital file to place in a set of "print worthy" directories.  Very sparse at this point.  And if I did have a brain, "freezing" would include trying to remember if I made that print yesterday or last week or ???

Anyway, that's how I arrived at this "wish".  And I'm open to critique of my filing technique -- but at this stage of life, I'm unlikely to change much.
