There are two good ways to manage your profiles already:

(1) When you save a profile, name your profile using the printer model and media type.  That way when you drop down printer profile and select "Suggest profiles", the one you want will never be more than a few rows from the top of the list.  Example: you have a Red River glossy paper profile for your Canon Pro-100 that has some obscure name.  Rename it to "Canon Pro-100 Photo Paper Plus Glossy II (Red River Polar Gloss)".  That way the name of the printer and media type used with that profile are in the profile name: when you select the Canon Pro-100 printer and set media type to "Photo Paper Plus Glossy II" and use "Suggest profiles", your profile will be at the top of the list.

(2) Save a printer setup when you use a profile.  This is the best option because a profile is useless without knowing the printer model, media type, and other driver settings along with it anyway so you should really be creating/saving printer setups when you use profiles.  When you've set up everything for that profile, just save a printer setup and name it whatever you like.  Then when you load a printer setup you can select "Current printer | media type" on the load dialog and it'll only show profiles for the printer and media type that are currently in use on the main window and there will only be a few for that combination.  Even if you don't know the media type used with the profile, you can select only "Current printer" and it limits the list to only the profiles that belong to the currently selected printer.

You could do that, appending the name of the paper at the end IF using a third party paper.  But that's doing it the hard (manual) way.  It's better to just save your printer setups as you use each profile and name the saved setup using the printer and paper name like "Canon Pro-200 Red River Polar Gloss".  Or whatever description you'd normally use to describe the profile.  Then when you open printer setups, there's a search on the recall dialog (top right - binoculars).  Then you can search whatever term you like and it'll highlight all the files that match.  You can even move through them (if more than one) using + and - keys.  Or click on the date field to sort by date and pick the latest.

It's important to create printer setups whenever you use a profile because as previously mentioned, a printer profile is useless without the program and driver settings that match that profile.  And you want to be able to repeat your results which are dependent on more than selecting just the profile.
 So the first time you print with a profile, save a printer setup before you print and then you'll know you can print with those exact settings again in the future.  You've taken the time to select the printer that goes with the profile, the media type you are supposed to use with that profile, the driver settings like quality selection, and picking the profile itself, so save all that!  Then the next time you want to use that printer, paper, and profile together you can just load the setup and all the settings match: you don't risk making a mistake or overlooking a setting by picking the profile and having to start over from scratch picking all the right Qimage and driver settings manually each time.

Next question:  I wanted to name my setups in the following format:  {{printer name}}{{paper manufacturer}}{{paper name}}

But it seems that when I simply open one of these, a new setup is automatically created using the default format (i.e. without the paper manufacturer name.)

I'm a bit confused here.

Ok, I see. I thought it was some sort of preferred format. Didn’t occur to me that it was part of the QUI automatic stuff.
