Title: RFC: More Floating text sets, saving the text "layout", more variables
Post by: Winfried on April 09, 2023, 03:58:50 PM
I really like the floating-text tool to add text information to a print.
- use one floating text to print a headline upon the print (IPTC Headline $H or IPTC Title $T)
- use another floating text to give some information about the subject of the image (i.e.  IPTC Caption, IPTC Keywords, Copyright)
- use another floating text to give some information about some technical data of the taken image (i.e. camera, focal length, ..)
- use another floating text to give some information about the printing-parameter (i.e. paper, icc-profile, printer,... there are so far no variables defined)

So I propose to make it possible to save (and recall) different floating text-files. These information is mostly in the log files, but cannot be accessed by the flotaing text tool.
I think a directory containing user-defined floating-text files might be a flexible solution.

p.s.: I maintain all the exif and .xmp data  with the DAM-tool IMatch. So I don't asked for another tool to maintain metadata.

I like the idea but you can sort of do that already.  On several occasions I have created txt files with the details I want and saved them as the headers for captions (e.g Total Eclipse 2018). I then just open and paste into the caption box.  Maybe you are thinking of something a little more sophisticated?

Yes that might work to some extend.
But you loose the
- font definition/specifications: which font, size, color, shadow, rotation
- align definitions of the text.

Qimage has these and other Information allready in the automatic log.

OK - I think I get it now.  You are not requesting a capability that we don't have, because we can add as many different floating test boxes as we want; what you want to do is automate certain often repeated information sets to make it easier to add them - I think.
