Qimage Ultimate is a great program, but in my opinion, in version 2018.101, an interface change was not quite successful.
Unfortunately - the  space for viewing thumbnails has diminished, and almost 1/4 of the screen is reserved for print properties.
The 'Queue' window does not contain the full information about the files sending to printer (too little space for it).

My suggestions:

1. from my point of view, the optimal use of the workspace was in versions 2010-2016, as well as in 2017. I propose to hold a vote on the forum - on the issue - "what kind of interface users like most":
   Like Qimage 2016
   Like Qimage 2017
   Like Qimage 2018
2. It's a pity, but the size of 'Tiny' for thumbnails is removed.
3. I think it would be more convenient to change the size of thumbnails by pressing the Ctrl + Scroll button on the mouse (as implemented in many software products).
4. May be it'll be possible to make windows in the interface with the ability to not only resize them, but also drag them to an arbitrary place (for example, as panels in Photoshop). In this case each user could create his own, user-friendly interface. Many people like innovations, but there are also conservative users.
5. May be it'll be possible to change the design of the thumbnails - make it more compact. For example, make the gray frame smaller and move all the buttons and checkboxes in 1 row or column. Or make a fully customizable thumbnail view.
6. It seems to me that many settings from the printer driver can be left there. For example, 'orientation', 'media size' and 'paper size'. After all, when printing - not so often they have to be changed. Or in any case, give them less space ... By the way - 'orientation' - is presenting in two places in the program interface.

I apologize if my comments seemed to be grumbling. But I like Qimage, I want to cheer Mike success, and tell him "thank you" for such a wonderful program.

Thank you for your promptness and for your reply.   Smiley

Alas, this video does not show - how to make possible to reduce the size of thumbnails. I mean how to make thumbnails smaller than 'Small'

In the 2018 edition, there is no need to set size to "Tiny" and have thumbnails so small that you can't really see them.  With the expand button (arrow button) to expand the thumbnail area, you can get 6 thumbs across and you can see 24 thumbnails on a typical 1920x1080 screen; more at higher resolutions.  On my wide format monitor, I get 9 across and can see 36 thumbs at the "Small" size.

Based on the feedback I have gotten on QU 2018, I suspect you are going to be very lonely in your preference for the pre-2018 layout.  Wink  The 2018 edition just makes much better use of space and controls:
  • Live view is always visible: in 2017 it would disappear when you clicked Printers/Settings
  • Print sizes don't obscure other controls: in all prior versions, you had to continually click the print properties buttons and then close the sizes to get them out of the way
  • Thumb size setting is a real size: in prior versions, setting thumb size just changed the number of columns (thumbs across) and thumbs still changed size depending on screen size/setup

Also, page orientation is duplicated for a reason.  It is on the "Printers and Settings" tab because it is an attribute of the printer/driver settings.  And it's also under the Live View as a speed button so that you can change page orientation without having to switch back to the "Printers and Settings" tab: you might be on the "Prints" tab and want to quickly rotate your page.  Having a dropdown setting duplicated in another area via a speed button is pretty typical (standard) UI behavior.

As to the queue, that is a diagnostic tab that has been made nearly useless with updates in recent years.  For the small minority of "filename driven" users, they can still go there, scroll the queue left/right and up/down to see filenames if they like.  But the UI design will never be dictated by the queue since you can get literally all of the information in the queue via hovering over prints on the live view.

Regards,
Mike

Thank you for an answer, Mike.
Anyway, I've got answers to almost all my questions. (Although it'a pity that I'm in the minority ... Smiley  )

And as for the 4th question ?

What do you say about the customasable interface ? Or that the Printing Properties panel can also be minimized using the arrow button?

Mike

I have a NEC Multisync P221 which has a native resolution of 1680x1050.

With the small thumbnail settings, the best I can do is 4 across which is not too great!

For those of us with "lower res" screens, the option of returning the thumbnail "tiny setting" would be really worthwhile - and those with higher res screens would just ignore it as their images would look like postage stamps. A tiny thumbnail to me would probably look like a small thumbnail on a higher res screen, which would suit me (and Just_user) fine.

Just a suggestion to a really great program.
