It would be good to be able to 'rename' an image in an album.  I would like to retain the original name of the image (in its original location) but be able to give the image another name (like an alias) in an album.  This would mean that I could sort the album in my preferred order.

I hope this makes sense.

Geoff

Hi Geoff,
This is how I would do it!
Bearing in mind that the ALBUM contains only shortcuts /pointers to the actual images, (to avoid having multiple space wasting copies of images), I would use COPY.

While in the Album, Right click on the selected image. The select COPY from the drop down menu.
Overwrite the selected blue filename with your special name, and say OK.
That will make a duplicate of the original but with a new name. You can delete the original file from the Album, and you are left with the newly named image.

That's all I can think of at the moment....

The ability to add a description to each file in an album is coming soon.  In the mean time, maybe you could create a sort to your liking using the file ratings.  Rate the ones you want at the top a 5, the next group a 4, and so on.  That won't let you sort each individual file but it might help in grouping them better.

Thanks to both Fred and Mike - my first posting and very prompt response.

I would ideally like to keep just one copy of my file so although the copy option would work it would mean that I actually had 2 copies of the file.
The description feature looks like it will do what I want - thanks Mike.

Goeff,
Just so you understand, the Album does not contain a second copy of the image, just a shortcut pointer.
So you can say "COPY", and give it a unique name, and delete the original.

Hi Fred,

Yes, I appreciate that albums only contain 'pointers' to the actual files.
I must be missing something in what you are saying.

What I want is to maintain the original file with its original name but for the album entry to use a different name - an alias, if you like.  Mike's description idea will do this for me.

Thanks,
Geoff

Ok I see now!
You want to keep the original name too.
Ok, stick with Mike...

Goeff,
I was playing around trying to find a way for you to accomplish what you want, or close to it, and I remembered how.
I forgot there is a REMOVE from Album selection in the Right Mouse menu when you select a thumb while in your album.

So that means that you can create your album, do a COPY to a new name in your album. That leaves you with two images, one a copy with a new name, and the other, the original.
You want to keep the original image in the original folder, but get rid of the same file from the album, no longer needed.
Select that image from the Album folder, right click, and select remove from ALBUM

Now you have the renamed copy in the Album, and the original file still in the original folder.

Hopefully,
Fred

Hi Fred,

You really do spend time supporting others - that's great.
I think that your solution leaves me with 2 files - the original and the renamed copy.  I want just one file and an album entry that points to it but has a different 'name'.  Then I can just update once and not have to worry about keeping the entries in step.  As I said previously, I think that Mike's solution will work for me.

Thanks again,
Geoff
