Title: Batch Developing Problem
Post by: vsteffel on August 29, 2010, 07:33:15 PM
Fred, Terry, or anyone, please help.

I have a HP Pavilion, AMD XP 3200+, 2.19 GHz, 2 GB of Ram, Windows XP Home Edition.
I am using QI Ultimate 1.113

My problem is that I took 151 raw images and downloaded them via Flashpipe. Then it went automatically into Develop mode.   Unfortunately only 43 were developed.  I didn’t realize this until I went into Q Ultimate to work on them.  I tried and tried to find a way using QU to develop in batch the rest of them. Can you guide me in the right direction?

I will add that since this happened I increased the time settings to 30 minutes before the computer goes into either sleep or screen mode.

Thanks in Advance

and downloaded them via Flashpipe.

Did you actually use Flashpipe stand-alone, or the built in Flashpipe part of Qimage Ultimate.?

Did you use COPY or MOVE as the command?
If you run Qimage Ultimate, you must disable the original Flash pipe program or at least exit the program.

Try re-running the Flashcard Copy Move part of Qimage Ultimate.
Click FILE, Flash Card Copy Move.
Let me know how you make out. I have a little program that retrieves images from a flash card if you need it.

Fred,

When Flashpipe came out I installed.  And it comes up automatically when I insert a flashcard (SD) into my cardreader.  It takes over from there.

Say, two weeks ago I installed Q Ultimate.  I rather assumed that with Flashpipe integrated in the program that it overrode the original installation of Flashpipe.

I would appreciate you little program to retrieve files from the SD flashcard.  My eMail address is:
steffel.1@osu.edu

I'll raise the other points in this thread after I straighten this out and understand what I'm doing.

Thanks loads,

Vlady

It would be prudent to disable the original Flashpipe either by unchecking it in msconfig, or uninstall. Flashpipe is built into Ultimate.

I will email the little program to you.

1. Now that I have unchecked via msconfig the stand alone version of Flashpipe, the Flashpipe in Q Ultimate does it.

But I would have thought that the Q Ultimate Flashpipe would overwrite the standalone version.

2. I still would like to know how to batch develop raw files in Q Ultimate that were taken and downloaded in the pre- Q Ultimate era.

Thanks for all your help.

It shouldn't.
Remember, many people download the Demo of Ultimate, and then decide to wait, or decide to run out the trial period and buy.... whatever, you cannot remove a program that they bought earlier.

Fred and Terry,

Thank you very much for your help and patience.  Ever since I started using Qimage years ago, I noticed how helpful you were to many of us.  While I don't post often I read especially your messages to see if I can find something useful and maybe solve one of my problems.

Now back to Flashpipe and developing raw.

I worked my way through the Flashpipe problem and thought about your suggestions.

I have Flashpipe via Q Ultimate working.  My big mistake was to assume that everything had been set.  Once I did that and had it working properly, including developing, I went back to Flashpipe stand alone.  I reset the Msconfig and tested Flashpipe.  It worked.  So I have both versions working properly now.

All of these issues arose because I'm giving serious consideration to shooting in RAW and based on comments in various Q Ultimate threads QU was doing a good job developing it.  And I must say it really is.  I had tried RAW in the past and wasn't satisfied with results and all the fiddling that needed to be done.  Mike's QU really simplifies the work load.

Best,
Vlady

I think from what you have said you set FlashPipe/Q-U to develop as you downloaded from your flash card.
I know there are many users like me who don't do this and only make extra files as and when required. We use the raw "Refine" features of Q-U to manually adjust the raw image and make prints directly from the raw image or then jpegs for e-mail etc.
There is a little guide to using raw Refine here: http://www.ddisoftware.com/qimage/Qimage%20RAW%20-%20A%20Guide%20R6.pdf
It is not completely up to date since the new white balance slider was introduced with Q-U but should give you help in getting started.
