I need to convert an assortment of shots into black and white.

The pre-prepared filter makes changes to the Sel Color panel. With a set of three numbers that I do not recognise.

In other software I have used I have been able to pick a range of colour filters to get the best range of tones. Normally this was green but sometimes facial tones in close ups work better with the blue filter.

What do QU do when the want a b&w and feel they can improve on the pre-set filter?

Actually, EASY PEASY!

#026 is tweaked cooler than #027. (It's subtle, but in the queue, reading RGB, you can easily see the values.

#028 is the table showing my change to the top right
#029 is the right click menu. Tick the one for the column fill

In Sel Color, to tweak cooler, just go to the Blue column and increase the end... .11 to .15.  (or your taste)
Then right click on the little box and apply to the ENTIRE COLUMN.

Done.

BTW, the numbers that appear are mathematical  calculations using some matrix math that only Einstein and Mike (and I think Terry) understand.

Fred

PS I spoke with Terry this morning, and he has another method, I believe.

Fred,

I think what you are doing is to produce a file that is subtly different from pure black and white.

My objective is to produce a pure black and white file but to interpret the colours differently. I'll add three files of a face you will recognise. One has been produced using the red filter in PWP, another using the green and the third using the blue. You'll see how the dark blue one creates far more shape in the face and the red one is really flat. I could do the same in Lightroom. I know there is little that QU cannot do in the hands of the experts - but how do I go about this, please?

red

green

blue

Many thanks,

Tony

Are you aware there a 3 other B&W presets in Select Color?
Open the SEL COL tab and click the "Load Sel Color Table" folder icon. There are Blue, Red and Green Separation options in addition to Black & White.
