Let's say I have added a black 0.01" border (outside) to an image (b.t.w. it's the only image on the current page in the print queue). But as I scroll through the various pages in the current job I notice that in the Qimage main window, the border setting shows as 0.03" for the page where I had previously set a 0.01" border. I press Control+E for "edit page". In the editing page, the border shows as 0.01. I could cancel out of that window since I'm not making a change, but to see what will happen, instead I press "Done" to save changes.

When I return to the main Qimage window (the print queue), the border remains set to 0.03.

Now I click the image itself in the main page. Immediately the border setting changes to 0.01. Then I click outside the image area. The border width now remains at 0.01.

What am I seeing here? Is the display of border widths in the main window just not updating correctly? Or is something else happening here? If I had left it at 0.03 in the main window, would it have printed a 0.03" border rather than a 0.01" border?

My guess is that you forgot to SELECT ALL when adding the border size and some images got .03 from some previous attempt.

Right click on the main window image in the main screen, and select ALL, up near the top of the list.
Now go to the PRINT tab and click on the border in use and then click on Clear All Borders.
Now add the .01 and see if you get the right setup>

I've opened a job with two pages in the queue and one image per page. In the main window, the border setting is 0.02. I select the image and press Control+E to edit it. In the editing window, I also see a border size of 0.02. I change it to 0.01 and this time even though there's only a single image, I click the All (apply to all) button, then the Done button.

Back in the main window, I see that the border setting remains 0.02. I return to the Edit window to see if the new setting "took." The border setting there is still 0.01.

I click Cancel to get out of there and return to the main window. I click the image itself. Then the border setting in the main window changes to 0.01. When I select the previous/next page controls, the border setting now remains at 0.01. I'm guessing it means I can override what's in the main window by first updating the setting in the Edit window. Perhaps the UI is conveying: "For any image on the page whose border hasn't been explicitly changed, the default border will be 0.02 for this job."

Good Morning,
I was able to follow the instructions in the last post, and by golly, you are right. It'a a confusing mess.
I think we turn this over to Mike to figure it out.
Thanks for staying tough.

Fred — before I retired I was a software tester of sorts, so this OCD-ish response to software is one of those "Sorry, but I just can't help it" things. :-)

The behavior might be different if a page in the queue contains more than one image. You might have set border size "x" for one of the images on the page, but it's set to size "y" for others on the same page. Then how should the program display the border size in the main window? It might be that it should remain at some default setting unless the borders are all the same thickness. I'll have to try this at some point and see what happens.

It's interesting observing how these borders appear in prints made in the Fuji Frontier machine. At first I thought: 0.01? That's absurd. Nobody will even be able to see it. But you can, and it's thicker than I would have thought 1/100th of an inch would be. Wonder what's the smallest thickness of line that printer can produce. It's using lasers to expose the paper. I would think it could go down to near-microscopic widths.

I skyped it off to Mike. Of course, I'm the only nut to get out of bed at 4 am on the east coast of the US.
So we will have  to wait for the hour that normal mortals awake.

I thought the entire east coast got up at 3 or 4 AM. I've been known not to go to bed until 4 AM, here on the Left Coast. (That's what programs like Capture One and Qimage will do to a person.)

Everyone here gets up at 4 am when there's a hurricane roaming the south Atlantic as there is now. They each want to buy up last remaining bottle of water.
Why, you ask?
Because the Television told them to.

Crazy world.

When you exit the full page editor and return to the main window with the live view, no prints are selected.  In that case, it shows you the default that was last used on the main window (.02).  When you select a print, it updates to show you the border for the selected print.  Since the full page editor is a one-at-a-time editor, the typical scenario is to select one print and then change the border: in that case, it cannot be assumed that you want to default to that border size for the rest of the prints.  So if you just select one print and change it from .02 to .01 border, you wouldn't expect the default on the main window to change to the new .01 value.  I think the confusion comes into play when you select apply to all.  In that case, maybe it would be more intuitive to change the default on the main window as well, so I'll probably change that.

Keep in mind that the main live view is a multi-edit window.  You could just click on any print, press Ctrl-A to select all prints, and change the border on the main window (Prints tab) to .01 (without having to open the full page editor).

Regards,
Mike
