Here's the video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtM0brxhbwM

The new window fade feature was added because some people complained that they didn't like the way the windows and dialogs opened by fading in.  Some people wanted then to just open instantly.  So the latest version has the option to turn the window fade off.  BUT...

It has come to my attention, even after sharing sample videos, that some people cannot even see the difference between when windows fade in and when they just pop open instantly.  I was flabbergasted that some people couldn't see it because it is obvious to me.  I don't want to say that I think it's the more "mature" people in our QU community who can't see the difference, but there... I said it.  Wink  It's quite interesting to me that, if true, your "internal framerate" decreases as you get older?  The idea seems so crazy to me that I had to post.  So... can you see the difference?  Can you tell that the first three times the Instaview window pops up, the window fades in... and the last three times it just opens instantly?  Be honest, and thanks.  Smiley

Then don't forget to vote!  Cheesy  At the time of this writing, there are no votes for not seeing any difference.

I'm like Jeff, it's not obvious, I think subtle is the word. May be that is a good thing.  Roll Eyes

I can't see any difference. Why would you want this anyway? What's the benefit?

It's always been there in Qimage Ultimate.  Now there's just a way to turn it off: because a few people object to it.  The advantage of the fade is that for most people, it makes the UI look smoother and more refined.  With the fade off, menus and dialogs just "blink" to open and that looks a little harsh.  The fade subdues that harsh "jerk" of motion you get when something just flashes open instantly.  I think most (who notice it) like it.  Some don't.  Hence the on/off switch.

Subtle difference. More basic question. In the video, clicking on a thumb shows "instaview". When I click on a thumb nothing happens :' Huh? How do you turn this feature on?

No turn-on required, use your middle mouse button.
That feature has been there for some time and is useful to see the image data, your raw refine settings and is quick way getting a larger view of the image.

Thanks! Very useful feature. I've never used the middle button for anything but scrolling. I'm sure there are a lot of other features in Qimage that I haven't found even though I've used the program for many years. Live and learn Smiley.

I never knew that was there either and just tried it.
All I get is a magnifying glass icon with a + sign in it, but no enlarged thumb image. I feel so cheated Terry Sad  Cry

my middle button is a scroll wheel Logitech and will scroll quickly up and down through  a page of thumbs in the preview window but no luck getting a large thumb view so far. Consequently, I cannot even vote  Roll Eyes

David,
My mouse is a Logitech with a scroll wheel and I can press down on the wheel and I have a middle mouse button.
I just looked in Control Panel, and in my setup for the mouse, there's no choices for the center wheel. So it scrolls (I can adjust the number of lines) and it has the center press down click)

Also want to mention that the fade in that frankly I can't see, is also on the Hover/Spacebar full image screen and the Image Editor screen.
So you can still look, and still vote.
Mike used the center mouse button to make it easy and fast to open an image with Insta View and see any change.

Check your mouse settings in the Logitech software, it should be set to "middle button". Sounds as though yours is set to zoom or something.
