Title: Cropping of images
Post by: steveevans on December 07, 2019, 12:41:25 PM
I run QImage Ultimate on 2 laptops. On one, it's 2017.112, on the other it's 2018.110.

Last night, on the 2018 version, when I select an image for printing, random images appear cropped and of course, print as they appear. When viewing the image outside of QImage and as a thumbnail in QImage it is absolutely fine - it's only when I select it to print that it's cropped. And as I say, it's not every image - it's totally random.

Copying the image to the other laptop, running the 2017 version, there's no problem.

Any idea what's going wrong?

Good morning,
Lots of ideas, but need to ask questions.
Had these images been printed before? Did you recover them by recalling a JOB?
Were the crops of the image or of the print?
If you copied the image to a different Qimage on a different machine, it is obviously an image without the cropping instructions which abide on the first machine.
Did the first machine show the thumbnail name in red?. What about machine 2? Thumbnail red or black? Any little gray scissors in the print>
Hope that gets you on track
Fred

Based on the description alone, it could be something as simple as crop being turned off on the 2017 version and turned on in the 2018 version.  Check the crop button (scissors icon) in the Prints tab in both versions.

Regards,
Mike

Thanks guys.
Not surew what I've done but I now have different issues!
On the 2018 version, where the problems exist, The print size is 9"x6" and so is the media size set.
When I select an image for printing, it pops into the display area, but each image selected has a different print size!
6 x 7.37 on one.
5.99 x 9.10 on another.
6 x9 on another.
5.94 x 9.03 on another.
Back to 6 x 7.37 on another.

Does that give any clues?

Hi Steve,
I wish you were in the US so I could speak like on the phone with you.

I have many print drivers here to test and you claim a paper size of 9 x 6. Unless you have a printer that uses roll paper and you can define your paper size, no printer that I tested offers a 9 x6 paper size.
Perhaps you had a custom cut of sheet paper made for you,  and you have a printer that permits user defined sizing, it will work.
BUT using an epson driver, the printable area of 9 x 6 is 8.776 x 5.776.
I am assuming you did not fiddle with Scaling in the driver.
What printer are you using?

Now you can easily get varying print sizes if, like I do, I crop the images aesthetically so each one is cropped for viewing enhancement.
If the auto crop scissor is off, then each print will retain the aspect ratio of the crop, and the crops will be random as to size.

One more item to contend with..... Three screen snaps attached.
039 Crop scissor on to fill out my 8 x 10 request.
041 shows crop scissor off of an image that was 3:2 ratio from the camera. Print size is 10. x 6.67
040 is a little more complicated but can give you smaller size prints. It is so cropped that the 8.0 side is filled out before the 10.0 inch size and I get a print size of 9.0 x 8.0.

Please tell us what printer. What is the paper size. What is the print size you want. lastly, if you can, send the resolution the image that is creating the most confusion.
