Post by: Maarten van Goga on November 11, 2022, 09:19:51 AM
Hi,
Can someone explain the different effects of the two sharpen tools? I've read the guide, but can't find the answer.

with regards,
Martin

Hi Martin,
There is a RED "V" for video located in the lower right corner of that screen.
At about the 10 minute mark, there will be a quick explanation that will help. I will try to find another video of that too.

Martin,
In the meantime, have a look at 32A through 32E in the Qimage Challenges.

I found another video

I can answer most easy questions. Mike will be in his office later for the hard questions.

I know where to find the two 'sharpen' tools. But I asked what the differences are.
Are you able to provide me, in general, the default/recommended settings for DFS and Sharpening in the Printers and Settings -> Processing section.

Hi Martin,
This is a video that Fred made in 2013! He must have forgotten!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AiVoXcB1uzk&list=PL1sunI5vT1aQhc_JOJiLufvAERChdViUU&index=14 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AiVoXcB1uzk&list=PL1sunI5vT1aQhc_JOJiLufvAERChdViUU&index=14)
It explains Deep Focus Sharpening (DFS) and why it's special and different from USM (unsharp mask).
Basically DFS is a sharpening  Algorithm that does not create halos on edges, unlike USM which all other editors use.
I recommend you always use DFS.
