When printing with Qimage to a user defined size on an Epson 3880 the 'size' field in the 'Print Setup' dialog box resets the selected user defined (Canvas1416) size to 'User Defined' before printing and lobs the head off my subject. I have gone through the same procedure with Photoshop and the setting remains at the selected size after closing and reopening the dialog box whereas it changes when set from Qimage. Before I go through any more canvas I thought I would ask if this is a problem created by me or the software.  Has anyone else encountered this situation?

Hi Jim,
I think we need more information.
Is 14 x 16 the "Page Size"?
What print size is being specified?
Are you setting the printer driver from with in Qimage via the  Setup icon next to the Print icon, top right of the main screen?
What printable area  is being reported above the page preview on the main screen?
What print size is being reported by Qimage in the Queue tab on the main screen?
Can you attach a screen shot of the right hand side, Preview & Job Properties etc.  please.

I may not be able to answer your query, but there are others here with your driver who will need that information and sort you out.

I hope the screen captures are able to describe the problem.

If I use Printer/page setup in Qimage and select the pull down menu under Paper->Size to select Legal 8 1/2X 14 in (Attachment Epson3880-1), close the dialog box and check the setting (by opening it again), it is still set as in attachment Epson3880-1. It also prints properly to a 8 1/2 X 14 in sheet of paper.

If I use Printer/page setup in Qimage and select the pull down menu under Paper->Size to select Canvas1416 in (Attachment Epson3880-2), close the dialog box and check the setting, it is no longer set to Canvas1416 but rather to User Defined (Attachment Epson3880-3). It does not print to the defined size of 14 X 16 in but rather to the first listing under User Defined which is 10 x 16 in.

If I do this under another program, Canvas 1416 remains selected.

Is 14 x 16 the "Page Size"?
  Yes

What print size is being specified?
The print size is being set using Canvas print as 13.766 X 11.766 with 1 inch wrap.

Are you setting the printer driver from with in Qimage via the  Setup icon next to the Print icon, top right of the main screen?
   Yes

What printable area  is being reported above the page preview on the main screen?
   15.766 X 13.766

What print size is being reported by Qimage in the Queue tab on the main screen?
   15.76 X 13.76 (incl. border)

Can you attach a screen shot of the right hand side, Preview & Job Properties etc.  please.
   Attachment: QimageScreen

Much appreciated. Thanks

I thought a print resulting from Qimage using the set up as detailed in the previous post might be helpful.

Hi Jim,
What size is the actual print, and what size is the actual paper?
Question 2,
What size does Qimage report that it is sending to the driver? (Click the Print  Queue tab to the right of the Job properties tab.)

If that looks good, then open the driver from Qimage (Print Preview) and click the Layout tab. See that there are no checkmarks especially any that will change the print size.
See the screen snap attached.
Does it say output same as page? and no checkmarks to override.

Hi Fred,

What size is the actual print
    The actual print is 15.76 X 13.76

and what size is the actual paper?
   The actual paper is 16 x 14

What size does Qimage report that it is sending to the driver?
   15.76 X 13.76 including borders

If that looks good, then open the driver from Qimage (Print Preview) and click the Layout tab.
   Attachment: QimageScreen-1

I am just going to remove all entries in the user defined table with the exception of the one required for printing. That will leave it as the only choice.

Thanks Fred,

Jim,
I was able to repeat what you found. Somehow, might be a bug in the driver, but saving the setup in the driver as I think you did (using Canvas1416 as the name), and it goes back to the 8.50 x 10 default when it feels like it.

Anyway, here's what I did and it works..........
I opened the driver.
I set the paper type to your Canvas type.
I set the size to User Defined 14 x 16
I set the Print Quality to Quality Options and turned on Finest Detail
I put the MODE on Custom and set to OFF NO COLOR ADJUSTMENT.
Source says Manual Rear
Size says User defined
Click on Layout Tab
Paper source is User defined   Output= Same as Paper size
No checkmarks on the left
I click OK
The remaining dialogue box should say SIZE: User Defined, and SOURCE: Manual Rear.

I close that box and I am back to the main screen in Qimage Ultimate.
I make sure my printer profile that matches the paper is in place in Job Properties...
I set my print size to Fit to Page using the print properties box, add my 1 inch border, and close it.

Add an image to make sure that's what you want. Crop scissor on, etc.
Now click FILE, SAVE.
When the save box opens, click the P button for Printer. Now give your setup a name like Canvas 1416 and SAVE.

Anytime you want to use it, Click FILE RECALL, click the "P" button and select Canvas 1416.
It works every time perfectly.... and the print is correct, see Print Preview screen snap.

Hope this works
Fred

That works great. I either never knew about talent of save or I forgot it.

I don't think it is the driver as it opens fine in Photoshop and Lightroom after being closed. Either way, your solution works, so that is the only one required.

Thanks again Fred,

Hi Jim,

This is a spin-off from your question... are you printing on "real" canvas with you 3880, ie canvas cut from a roll?

Hi 60,

I purchase large rolls of uncoated canvas, gesso it liberally (if gesso can be a verb), coat it with InkAid White Matt Precoat and run it through the printer. It has wonderful tones and colours. I used Profile Prism to make the ICC and that worked well. The thickness is the same as Hahnemuhle William Turner so that is no problem. I built a wooden frame to hold the canvas for the drying processes.

Are you doing something similar? with good results?

Jim

Hi mJim,

Sorry for not answering until now...

I got the 3880 as a replacement for my old Epson 2100, which broke down unexpectedly before I had a chance to print on canvas from the rolls I purchased.

Hopefully it might be able to adapt the roll feed assembly from the 2100 and attach it to the 3880. Due to the Epson driver limitations I probably won't be able to print anything longer than 95 cm / 37", but roll feeding would make canvas printing easier. If I can use the canvas with the 3880 it would be wonderful. I never thought of precoating the canvas, but it seems lika a great idea  - thanks!
