6.  Make the "Cancel Printing" button (rightmost of the three) "Cancel AND Clean out the Windows printer queue as well" so one does not have the printer automatically resume printing on a Restart, or Windows to resume where it left off and keep printing once turned off and back on. Going into Control Panel > Devices & Printers > Selecting whatever printer might be holding onto a file to print > and clearing it of remaining jobs (often the same one) is a total pain!  I just want it to Stop Printing! if I hit the "Cancel" icon.  Something stuck in that queue is a nightmare and often slow to get it to cleaned out completely too.

Wasting paper on a Windows printer queue that holds (or even "Saves") a image file and tries again later after I have hit the "QI Cancel button" gets expensive at $5 a sheet.  Windows 8-64 gets persistent on saving stuff in that printer queue if I cancel out a job.  Cancel should "CANCEL" and not resume/restart later on.

Hi Mack,
The Cancel in Qimage is to cancel the creation of the print job. It never can stop a printing job that has left Qimage and gone to the Windows spooler and beyond, into the printer itself.
That's different territory.
Once Qimage says, finished processing, that print file is gone. You can actually close Qimage at that point and the prints will keep printing.

You usually have a cancel button on the printer itself... that is still not an immediate kill either.
If it's a multiple sheet job and you must stop the print, then kill the power to the printer. Then you will have to go and Cancel the job from the Spooler in Windows.
That's all I can think of.

When I print, I get a notification in the System Tray, see 1st screen shot below.
Open that and you see all print jobs, right mouse click and select cancel. See 2nd screen shot.
I've done that for years  Roll Eyes

F & T:

I like "One-stop shopping - or stopping."  Smiley

As it is now, QI's "Cancel" is more like "You only think I've cancelled.  I'll resume printing later." due to Windows spooler hanging onto files.  Nothing like turning on your computer and printer in the AM an then it grabs a $5 piece of paper and starts printing on it before I can find and open another pane to shut it down.  Damage has already been done, and really is annoying that the process is not fully killed/flushed in QI too.  I think of "Cancel" in QI more like "Resume later" if I don't address Windows and the print spooler panels too.  Too many steps to shut it down.

Would be nice if QI could shut down/flush out the printer spooler and whatever else Windows keeps active in the background and even on restarts.  Really is annoying having to watch small and disappearing printer window pane and then trying to catch them and to find out that a bunch of other things are pending or building to be sent to the printer while your away.  Should be a way to "Kill it quickly and in one-shot" from all future printing without further loss of paper nor babysitting Windows and launching into it to make sure the printer spooler isn't actively lurking in the background.

Sort of like some firewall software that doesn't have the ability to "shut the connection down immediately," but rather you need to open up the Control Panel and shutting off the network through there.  Some firewall software has a "one-stop button" and hitting it shuts down the connection immediately and not via another half a dozen windows before you can stop the damage.  AVG has one.  BitDefender does not.  I'm going back to AVG since BD doesn't kill the connection without a lot of work to get there.  Really is a slow and dangerous firewall control.

Your idea is a really good one...
Now we have to find out from Mike if it can be implemented in practice.

Your wish has been granted  Grin
See QU 2013-113 released today.
I think this is the only software that I know of that can fully cancel a print from within it  Shocked
Thanks for the suggestion and a great job by Mike as usual.

If you want a quick way of killing print jobs for other applications, see: -

http://www.40tech.com/2011/08/09/how-to-clear-hung-print-jobs-with-a-quick-and-simple-batch-file-windows

This will kill active print jobs on ALL printers.
QU only stops the printer being used by QU.

Killing jobs on all printers is quite drastic. When printing more jobs I have the spooler windows open of the two printers I have and cancel jobs there, I keep jobs there for repeats too (on the same day) as it speeds up the process without the rasterisation step in Qimage. Usually hitting the cancel button on the printer itself first though if the fault is seen there first. If I made a mistake and the printer is not yet started the spooler window was the place to cancel. Now I have to check whether the HP drivers comply to the improved Qimage print cancel function and whether Qimage throws away only the job in progress or all the jobs there :-)

Good Morning Ernst!

I am not sure of what you do in terms of how many printers are running at one time, but I just wanted to make sure you are aware that Qimage is only Canceling the job in the spooler of the currently selected printer.
I tried this a number of times. If I am running a print job of 6 8 x 10s on my Epson and my wife is printing to the HP, with both printers grinding away, a click of the Cancel will only kill the job that Qimage is pointing at, due to that printer being selected at the moment of the Cancel button.

So in reality, it doesn't kill jobs on all printers.

Stay well.
