Title: Flash Card Copy/Move / enhancement request
Post by: Winfried on June 23, 2012, 01:26:10 PM
Is it possibly to have an options to set the copied/move files (on the PC) write protected?

regards

Sure!
It's a simple windows thing.
Just right click on a folder with your images, select properties, and then check READ ONLY!
See screen snap attached.

It's not a good idea to do this to your only copy of images as you are effectively locking that folder which will not accept any "writes" of filters as you tweak your images.

Might be OK for a backup copy folder, perhaps.

Yes of cause this can be done with windows.
I do not want this per folder, but per image. (can also be done manuallly by the explorer)
You are right, it no good idea per folder, but if I can do this per image, it may prevent me or somebody else from making any changes to the original images and I am able to create new versions of the file and write it to the same folder.
There are a lot of programs modifiying even raw-files (dng for example). Adobe likes to include there xmp stuff into the files. Even to the dng-raws from my pentax. I don't like that.

OK, this write protection is just a flag and can be changed on purpose. But this flag reminds me not to modify my original file.
Therefore  I would like to have it as an option per target/line.

My workflow to copy the images from the card to the PC:
Line 1 copies to a directory on a local disk on my PC. With these files I work.
Line 2 moves to a directory on an usb-attached (remote) disc or a NAS. This is my backup archiv
So, before I do anything with my images, I have a backup.

@Mike,
any chance for this request to make it into the next major release?
