Lost my mom a few years ago and my dad is living in Palm Coast. He's 91. Fortunately my sister and husband live nearby and stop in almost daily. Hopefully the hurricane won't be too bad, but I can't image 10-20" of rain where I live (Upstate NY), and I'm on a hill. Power outages suck, but with a cooler and some ice packs you can manage for a while. Stay safe!

Thanks for the good thoughts.
Contrary to the TV hype and publicity pushers, there is no perfect  place to live; although Sarasota is close!  Hilarious Lips Sealed
Fred
PS Where in up state NY?  Plenty of friends there as I lived for years in north Pa and had my own Ham radio repeater . Made many friends.

Hi Fred,

I'm in Canandaigua, NY. It's really a good place to live, no hurricanes, no volcanos, no wild fires, almost no earthquakes, plenty of fresh water, low housing prices, a fair number of high tech jobs and the snow isn't nearly as bad as decades past. Summers aren't that hot, winters aren't that cold. Probably due to global warming, but maybe just normal variation. Just far enough from lake Ontario and lake Erie to avoid most of the lake effect snow. Just north enough from Pa to avoid the heavy rain and storms they seem to get. That's why they call it "The Chosen Spot".

My dad is a ham, but hasn't been on the air for a long time. Sadly, most of the people he used to talk to have passed on. He's extremely good with the computer, unlike many his age.

Best,
Conrad

Since the coming of email, Ham radio became obsolete.
I used to make appointments with Hams in Europe and Israel saying, "I'll  call you on such and such a frequency on 20 meters at 11:00 am GMT"  Then you hope no one was already talking there, or that 20 meter band decided to be dead at a certain distance. No regrets. Learned a lot and met so many great people.  I remember driving to Watertown, NY to deliver a pizza to a ham shut in....
Good times,

Fred
