The first thing to do is click on the "Prints" tab and look under the size list where it says "Add (# copies)" to make sure there is a 1 in that parameter. If there is something else like a "4" in that parameter, it'll add 4 copies each time you add a thumbnail to the live view.
Also, there is no such thing as a "cell" in Qimage. A "cell" is a limiting area of a page that you design so that prints stay within a certain area of a page; sort of like limiting a prisoner to their cell.
Qimage has no such limitations as it is an automatic layout program and the only limiting factor is the page size. So it's more like having a room and allowing people of all sizes into the room and then arranging them in various seating positions automatically so they fit comfortably. That is, there is no reason to have to manually "pre-design" cubicles of various sizes and go through your guest list to see who is coming first: just let people in and the room is designed for you automatically based on who comes through the door. Of course, you can manually design the page if you like, placing templates for prints of various sizes and locations using a user designed layout, but that's not typically how Qimage is used. You normally just pick thumbnails and print sizes and let Qimage do the work for you via one of the auto placement methods such as IntelliCenter.
Now, I've given that analogy for a reason: there is no way for Qimage to place multiple images on top of one another unless you are in "freehand" mode or you've designed a layout that has predetermined templates that overlap. In this context, it would help to see a screen shot of the Qimage main window to see how you have things laid out since there are many different auto-placement and freehand options. This is because when Qimage is running in its normal auto-placement modes, even if you did have "4" copies selected, it wouldn't put them on top of one another and would just arrange the 4 copies optimally on the page so there is no overlap.
