I have a few images, created by a Kyocera TaskAlfa 3050ci scanning routine. They are around 800KB in size with a dimension of 4960 x 3507 (scanned as A3 size). Qimage gives me Image Read error, although the files open happily in Windows Photo Viewer. My version of QU is 2012.217. Please advise?

It is hard to say without having an image to inspect. Usually, the problem is a non standard TIF created ny some software.
1) Will Kyocera allow a JPG save?
2) Can you email one of the tifs to me? You say it's only 800K.

Immediately, one can see that any TIF with a resolution of 4960 x 3507 should be around 50 + Megabytes.

I am sending it back to you at 52 megabytes
I fixed it. It has something to do with "an old JPG format inside a Tiff shell"

I will have to ask Mike what that actually means.  But in the meantime, it is good now.

 Picture Viewer cannot open  1.TIF.    PS cannot.   Windows Photo Viewer, YES! Paint Shop Pro, YES... Corel Photo Paint, NO!

Interesting, but we need Mike to do an autopsy on the file.

Autopsy report:
The body was found to be an old corpse which was left to rot many years ago.
Could not ascertain the gender; male or female.
Even using Carbon Dating, could not determine the age of the format.
It was never approved nor accepted by any format funeral home other than Transylvania.

Photo Shop will not recognize it either, nor many other editor programs.
Irfanview will open it, and Irfanview will allow a SAVE AS to a TIF (the legitimate TIF)
The autopsy did show a JPG inside of a TIF .... whatever that means???

So since Irfanview is a freeware program, the suggestion is that you download a copy and make your conversions to real TIF.
That is actually how I made the file I sent you so you can see that it is something you can use.

Sorry, Anthony!   Mike has never seen such a file before, and since this Japanese software from Kyocera seems to be using its own proprietary format, Mike suggests that you see if they allow saving to some other format like JPG, PNG, BMP, anything!

LOL! This is very disappointing - not on your side but because Kyocera swore to me that the scanning facilities in this unit were tip-top. Oh well, we live and learn. I appreciate all your investigations. Please thank Mike too

Qimage doesn't carry as much weight in the world (it should though) as Photo Shop. So if you intend to communicate with Kyocera, mention that Photo Shop cannot open their file.
See what they say. They must have later software...  I looked them up.... BIG company that sells many products...
