Title: layout and print size
Post by: hongu123 on April 07, 2011, 08:01:51 PM
Hi I created a layout and run it all is fine. I add images and save it as a job later I recall the job. When I made it I did it on 44" wide paper but this is far too big for the print so I decided to put a differant sheet size in i.e 24" the layout should fit on this size but qi is telling me it will not and wants to scale the layout to fit the new sheet size.If I tell it not to scale there is nothing in the print area if I say yes scale then it makes it much smaller. Is this a Limitation of using a layout or am I doing something wrong?
I have prob not given enough info here but I am unsure what else you may need to know. Or i don't make sense(this is likely)!
Thanks Phill

We need paper sizes, print sizes.
What size paper did you describe to the driver? What size prints are you making, how many?
Usually Qimage will give you a choice. If you present it with a print request that is larger than the printable area of the paper, it will ask you if you want to stck with the size, in which case it will use more sheets, or allow it to scale the print request down to fit within the printable area of the paper you told it you were using.

We di need all the information you can supply.

Hi ok here are my screen shots and settings.
(1)layout.jpg is the layout after running it and inserting images. centre picture is 213mm smaller pictures are 71mm square. making a print size of approx 355mm. This is on 44inch wide paper.
(2)layout images.jpg is the layout run with images inserted after been recalled. All seems ok upto now
(3)after size change.jpg is the dialoge box telling me it it going to resize the job as it wont fit the print sheet size after changing paper size to 24"  (at this point i had already clicked no and just took this screen shot to show the dialoge box) and this is what happens. no layout with pictures
(4) After yes.jpg is what happens to my layout after selecting yes to resize to fit paper. layout has been reduced in size. and not the size i want

So why Is qi telling me that the layout wont fit on 24" when the job is only 355mm square in size and my 24" paper is 600mm ish?
I know I probably doing something very wrong I usually am and that it's not qi thats at fault. I tried changing the paper size to 24" before running the layout but was told it was the wrong size and would not fit.
and notice in(3) after size change.jpg that the images are still in the queue and there is no image or layout anywhere there is only this page.

I wait in Embarrassment at the reply. :-[

So why Is qi telling me that the layout wont fit on 24"
No it is not. It's telling you it MAY not work or fit on the new page size and asking what you want to do, the choice is yours.
I've just reproduced a similar situation and said "NO" and the images were the correct size but the layout was off the edge of the page. When I said "YES", the position of the layout on the smaller page was correct but of course, as Qimage says, the images were smaller. It does exactly what it says on the box.
A Qimage Layout is a particular sized page with a set of image templates on it, so changing page size mid-stream is not a good a idea, hence the Qimage message  ::)
The best thing to do is plan ahead a little, decide on the optimum page size, specify that in the driver and then make you layout. Yours is quite simple, it'll only take 5 minutes to do it properly ;)
