without rhyme or reason. When I close Ultimate (v105) a file named "lcms2.dll" is being deleted. A file search indicates it is no longer on the drive. When I try to restart the program, I get a "file cannot be found...." error and have to reload the entire program from my last update. The file will then show up on the drive, until I close Ultimate again ~ then I have to reload. The file is NOT being sent to my "trashcan". This file loss does not happen every time I close Ultimate, but it does happen often enough to be a PITA. This started around version 103-104.  Any suggestions? System = Win XP Pro; all updates, plenty o'RAM. thanks!

Sorry, but I don't have any machines left that run XP.
My first thought was to ask whether the lcms2.dll is residing in the proper directory.
In W7 and Vista, I find it located in the same folder with Qimage.exe.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Qimage-U

The filedate is 11-08-2010 with a size of 321 KB. Let's make sure you have the correct file.
I have seen rare times when a new file refuses to overwrite an older one.

There is no code in Qimage that can delete that file which means either some other program or your operating system is deleting it.  What antivirus program are you using?  I suspect some utility like an antivirus program is deleting the file.  It also might be possible that the Windows installer has gotten corrupted somehow and it thinks that by running Qimage you are trying to uninstall the program so your system is trying to "clean up" the files from the install.  If that's the case, uninstall Qimage Ultimate via Control Panel, then reboot your machine.  After the reboot, reinstall Qimage Ultimate.

Thanks for the responses. I'll give the uninstall a try and see what happens.

I haven’t tried any uninstalls yet, but I've tried a few things and found out the pattern. The file is still disappearing, but I know how to do it!! Here's what is happening:

I keep both Qimage and Qimage Ultimate on my PC; Qimage is on the C: drive in the Program File folder, Qimage Ultimate is on my E: drive in its own folder. They were installed this way due to the fact that my C: drive has no room without my doing some housecleaning, which I normally leave for my maid (and she doesn’t do computers)  ;D

When I start Qimage (not Ultimate) the file (lcms2.dll) is deleted from the E drive folder where I keep Ultimate. This requires me to manually add the file back to the E: driver in order to run Ultimate. The file is deleted EVERY time ~ AND ONLY ~ when I restart Qimage (not Ultimate). If I just ran Ultimate there would be no problems since running Qimage (not Ultimate) is what is causing the file to be deleted.

So my question is: How can I get both Qimage and Qimage Ultimate to co-exist on the same machine? If I remove Qimage from the C: drive, and reinstall on the E: drive, what files might I lose? I do see that there are a number of “ddisoftware” shared files in my documents. Will I lose my paper PRT files? Or my layouts?

I’m willing to do a clean install provided I won’t lose a couple of year’s worth of custom paper and/or layout files. Any help would be appreciated.

For now, I’m just keeping a copy of lcms2.dll on my desktop and I drop it into the Ultimate folder after EVERY time I use Qimage and need to use Ultimate. Not too trick, but it works…

UPDATE -- changed the attributes to "read only" and it no longer gets deleted! Still like to know about a reinstall - what do I lose? I know there is a custom option on the control panel - but didn't see my prt files there.

Unless you use an un-installer utility, I don't think the Application data folders get deleted.
However, to be on the safe side, just back them up before un-installing. You can locate where they are from The Utilities menu, and select "Explore Qimage Application Data".
Copy the folders to a safe location so the contents can be copied back after completing a fresh install. I did this recently when I loaded up a new PC and used all my saved stuff from the old PC.
