Title: New printer
Post by: brucet on December 23, 2016, 03:13:53 AM
Sorry but I'm being lazy here. My trusty old Epson 1410 died. So because I have a large consignment to print I purchased an Epson 1430. Same everything. Just a newer version. Same ink etc etc etc.
I have 2 two 'QImage print Jobs' saved that I recall for printing. Both of these include the various paper, ink, printer etc profiles.

Is there an 'easy' way to edit those already existing 'QImage print Jobs' and simply change the printer profile without having to create a new 'QImage print job'?
I had to delete the old printer from my system and install the new printer software.
It's over 3 years since I set it all up and can't recall how I did it. It's an age thing!!!!

Thanks
Bruce

OK. I thought twice about being lazy. Not a good idea!!!

I eventually decided to start from scratch. Now I have 2 nice new 'QImage print jobs'.

What I thought I have forgotten wasn't so bad after all.

I would have suggested keeping the old driver on board, loading the JOBs one by one, change printer while job was on screen, double check all settings, and SAVE the Job.

Merry Christmas,
Fred

Thanks Fred A. That's basically what I did.

The 'problem' with programs such as QImage is that I only use them for printing and only when I get large orders. Thus what I learn I forget between jobs.
Still the best way to do the printing though.

I think I messed up somewhere!!! I'm printing on A4. I have 'Print Properties (297.0 x 210.0)'. Fit to paper. Yet when I print the printed image is missing approx 2mm on each border. (4mm total width and height are missing). The printers dialogue box is checked for 'Borders'. I don't want or need Borderless. Does this sound right? Or where else has my 2mm gone? (My preveiw show the whole image but when printed it's missing the surrounding 2mm).

I was clever enough to delete my old settings. Not. So I can't check what I did have before!!

When you use fit to paper, it actually fits the print to the paper (being the full A4 sheet).  The non-printable margins on the edges are just cropped off.  That's probably where your 2mm are going.  Use fit to page instead of fit to paper and it will fit within the printable area.

Fit to paper is useful when you have something like an A4 scan and you want to reproduce the scanned A4 at an identical size.

Mike

Thanks Mike. Thats done the trick.
'Fit to page'.

Question - Use new print size. Hot sizing = off/on. Left side. Do I select the size first then turn Hot sizing on or off. Or do I turn it on or off before selecting the size?

The hot sizing is automatically turned on/off based on what you do:

Right clicking on a thumbnail "zebra" button: it's off because you are just changing the "working size"

Click on zebra button under the Live View: same as above

Left clicking on a thumbnail zebra: it's on because a left click signifies "add print"

Once you have the print properties open, you can change your mind and click on the hot sizing bar to turn it on/off.

Thanks Mike. Now I have my 4mm back I'm not sure I want it. Yeah no pleasing some folks!!! You see I'm in Australia. Do all my prints here. Then carry them in my baggage to the USA. (200+ this trip). Before I leave Australia I order all my backing board, matboard and show bags for delivery in the USA. Then set to work in the hotel room mounting them all before delivery. So my sizes have to exact to match the cutout in the matboard. To make it easy I simply reorder my standing order for matboards etc. So with any change I need to redo all my measurements.
Ah so what's the big deal I hear you say. Well those 4mm hid a small change in the ratio of the prints. That small change has thrown out the matboard sizes. So getting back to being lazy I my go back to the missing 4mm.

Users ask for all these features then get in a mess using them!!!!!  ;D

When doing something like that, I typically just measure the matboard opening and set my size to the size of the matboard opening plus 2mm (giving me about a 1mm overlap at the edges so no white shows).  Doing that with crop on also allows me to see exactly what will print inside the opening, allowing me to adjust the crop in the page editor if necessary.

Happy Holidays,
