Mike,
Hi! I have a 16 bit RGB, 180GB TIFF file, 13,280 pixels x 4746 pixels  (44.267" x 15.82") at 300ppi.  I desire to make a finished print of this file, sized to 27120 pixels x 9692 pixels (113" x 40.384") at 240ppi, creating a finished file size of 752GB that I can save as a TIFF.  I care to interpolate it with the Pyramid algorithm set at strength 5.  My computer runs XP Pro, is 64 bit  8 gig rams, 2 hard drives.  I receive the message, " Not enough storage is available to process this command" when I try to create the new interpolated 752GB file.  In addition, the program freezes requiring me to restart my computer.  When I do, QImage Ultimate will not operate normally and  I have to delete the program and reinstall it to have it running unaffected by my previous up sizing interpolation command.

My QImage raw cache is empty when I start this process, ie., giving me maximum possible storage space.  I have even tired running the up sizing interpolation command having migrated Q image application data to my second drive with a new empty QImage raw cache.  I recognize interpolating with Pyramid from 180 GB to 752 GB is an unusual request, technically difficult to do and requires lots of processing time.  Can the software do this interpolation and if so, how do I go about it?

Thanks,
Steve Antell

Steve

You can use the poster printing option.
Basically, you set the page length in the printer driver to a smaller size, say 24", and the print size in QI to your required finished print. QI will divide the print to 24" chunks and the printer will stitch them together absolutely seamlessly. Obviously you must have no margins or borders set.
This works perfectly with Epson and Canon printers, I believe there may be problems with some HP models.
You can test it by cropping  a 40" x 20" part of your image and printing it with the page length set to 12".
This method will allow QI to process your image, and also avoid potential spoolong errors which you are likely to have with such a large print.

HTH

Yes, but ...
1 - Qimage is an 8 bit program (like most drivers) so it's a waste of time & resource making a 16 bit image to print.
2 - there's no need to make a new image by using QU to interpolate to a new pixel size; QU does that automatically to the native resolution of your printer. Just print the original 13280x4746 pixel image to the inch size you require, merely specify 113" x 40.384" as a custom size in QU. Don't worry about ppi of the image or print, QU sorts that out for you.
3 - when there's a message about storage space, it's a Windows problem not QU. XP was not very good a memory management. You can see how much is available by clicking QU Help, hold the shift key down and click Analyse Current Settings On XP I doubt (from memory) that you get more that about 750MB. I get 2000MB with W7-64 bit. With XP you can improve a little by using the 3GB switch. You'd have to Google about that.
To calculate MB required M pixel width x M pixel height x 3 (for RGB) Eg. 13.28x4.76x3 = 189.6MB
4 - Your original 13280x4746 image should print easily on QU with XP; the larger version is a problem. NB. the QU printing process is a little different that making a new image in QU in that data is sent to the printer in batches so as not to overload the system.
I hope that helps but summarising, print the original 13280x4746 pixel image at your specified inch size and let QU do its magic with interpolation in the printing process. Also, use Fusion interpolation, it's the best.
Terry
PS. I assume you meant 752MB not GB!

I checked this out by making a similar sized image in QU. I cropped an image to a similar aspect ratio and saved as a tif at a resolution of 27120 x 9683 pixels. The file size is 787.9 MB.
There were no problems and no error messages which confirms what I said before, it's a Windoze XP memory problem when the "not enough storage" message appears.
My system is W7-64 bit; 6GB RAM; Intel i7 quad processor 3.4Ghz.
