I've always gotten white on the unused portion of my paper.  Now, all of a sudden, it is grey and is printing grey. How do I fix this

Thanks.

This is an indication that your printer profile has an issue or you are using "Absolute colorimetric" intent.  Make sure you are using relative colorimetric rendering intent for your printer profile.  If you are and you still have a problem, your printer profile is invalid (invalid white point).

Thanks for getting back to me. I tried changing it from Auto to relative with no change.  I have 2 Canon Pro-1000 drivers.  Once gives the white border and one gives the grey border.  My Pro-2100 also gives the grey border.  They both worked fine before so I don't know what has changed. I don't know how to change the printer profile (invalid white point).  Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I should mention that I don't want to print in the unused (border) region of the paper.  Why has it started printing there?  And why is the 'border' of the print on Qimage now grey instead of white?

I don't know what you mean by "border".  No software (not even the driver itself) can print in the non printable margins.  But whenever someone says the printer is laying down ink in a white area, there are very few possibilities.  Assuming the area in question is truly white (255,255,255) from the image itself, the only thing that can cause a printer to put ink in that area is a bad profile.  So you'd really have to let us know what your setup is: I assume you are using a printer profile but I don't know for sure.  Show us your setup (Qimage and driver).

The white area is not in the image. It is the supposedly blank portion of the paper around the image, but it is being printed on. I've attached a screenshot. Let me know if you need other info.

Your screenshot shows that you have selected a page background color of gray.  See the button to the left of the button with the eyeball under the live view: that shows you that you have selected dark gray for the page background color.  You can click on that button and select white to correct this or even easier: right click on the button and that'll reset it to white.

Well that was a simple fix.  Thanks so much for your help, and for your very quick responses!  Much appreciated.

You're welcome.  I wish I had thought of that possibility sooner but I guess my mind was on profiles.   Undecided

No problem. I would have never figured it out myself.  Thanks again.

Sorry to trouble you again, Mike, but I have another problem.  I was printing today and printed one image, then another. Now when I choose an image from lightroom to send to Qimage, it keeps picking the same image, no matter which image I choose to export to Qimage. What have I screwed up this time?

Interesting.  That's a first.  Let's first determine whether Lightroom is sending the wrong image or Qimage is reading an old export...

Send a new image from Lightroom.  After that, go to Qimage's main export folder and see what image(s) is in there.  To do that:

  • In Qimage, select "Utilities" from the top menu, then "Explore Qimage Application Data", then click "OK"
  • A File Explorer window will open: from that window, open the "Plugins" folder and then from there, open the "Export" folder

In that "Export" folder you should see a bunch of subfolders where you've exported before.  Ignore those and look for a TIFF image sitting by itself.  Open that (double clicking should bring up that image in whatever program is associated with TIFF files on your system).

If that image is the one you expect but Qimage displayed the wrong one, then we'll look at Qimage to see what is going on.  If instead that image is wrong (some old image), it means Lightroom exported the wrong one in which case, Adobe would have to answer to that or at least we'd have to look at what you are doing in Lightroom to see if maybe the wrong image is getting selected or something.

Mike

Yes, it is the same image that I am seeing in Qimage--the wrong one; not the one I exported.  Can I try reinstalling the Qimage plugin in Lightroom?  How do I do that?

Just run the Qimage Ultimate installer again and it'll reinstall the plugin.

That fixed it.  Thanks very much again, Mike.  Your responsiveness is greatly appreciated.
