Please describe the steps you are using.
Have you closed and reopened Qimage?
Where did the Tiffs come from?

Hi Fred A, The TIFFs came from my hard drive. Qimage has succesfully converted many hundreds of files taken in the same format, with the same camera in years gone by. I uninstalled Qimage and reinstalled it, managed convert 40 TIFFS to JPEGS, selected another 40 form the same folder and got the out of range message again. Strange!! I will unstall and reinstall Qimage to see what happens. Will keep you posted with the result.

I would have to ask Mike if there's a memory shortage in your system, or perhaps some limit?

Just wait a bit. Mike should get to the office before 10

Nothing has changed in the code in the past year or so with regard to converting images, so let's see if we can figure this out.  I ran a test with 112 TIFFs that I converted to JPEG and checked the memory before, during, and after, and I'm not seeing any memory leaks or other problems.  Unfortunately it can be complicated with TIFFs because their headers can be so complex that it's almost like running unspecified code: and that code can sometimes cause problems.  This is why Fred asked where the TIFFs came from; what he meant was... what software was used to create the TIFFs?  My first suspicion is that you have some TIFFs that have bad headers or have header info that Qimage can't handle for some reason (they are not compatible).  See if you can narrow down the problem.  That is, when you try to convert some TIFFs and you run into this problem, try splitting them into two halves: does the error only happen when one of the two batches of 20 is converted?  If so, split that bad batch of 20 into 10/10 and repeat.  See if you can find the problem TIFF(s): there may only be one... or a few.  If you can find one, you can send it to me and I'll see if I can find what is causing the problem.

Regards,
Mike

+1 on the divide and conquer approach. That's always worked for me when I've had the odd file with a problem.

The files were originally taken on a Sony a700 in Sony’s ARW format. They were then converted in Qimage to TIFF format. Qimage has over the years converted to TIFF format approx. 75000 images taken with this camera. I have only just started to convert from TIFF to JPEG in Qimage. After un-installing and re-installing Qimage the problem persisted so I decided to reinstall over the existing installation and tried again [Repair mode in other applications I think]. Success I managed in batches of 40 images to be able to convert from TIFF to 100% JPEGS. However, the out of range message appeared once all I did was to press OK [enhance and filtration box] and all was and still is well. The TIFFs were only adjusted with DFS rad 1 option as they have already been adjusted. I only need to reduce the size to save on storage space. So far 405 images converted successfully.

1) Is that 75,000 number a typo or real? That camera was released by Sony Sept. 1, 2019, 14 months ago/
2) For my curiosity, what % of jpg compression did you use? Probably means nothing but I like to try to reproduce the error message if possible.
3) You said version 2020.100, which is Sept 2019.  Not 2021.100 Wont be relevant, but I am trying to get it right.
4) Again, not relevant, did you have profile to profile conversion on or off?
Thanks for the help
Stay well too.

Hi Fred, I think you will find the a700 was released in 2007. As regards to the JPEGS I used 100% quality all other settings left at default. I confirm the version I am using is 2020.100

Now this is funny. My typo. I typed Sony A 7000. That was Sept 1, 2019.
Sorry.
I have that version of QU, so I am going to simulate. (Nothing better to do. (I have to keep social distancing between JPGS)

I still need you to use the "divide and conquer" approach to see if we can locate specific TIFF(s) that are causing the problem.  It may also help if you post a screen capture of the actual error message because sometimes the wording or even the shape of the error dialog will tell me where it came from.

Mike, Unfortunately at the moment I have at the moment no other TIFFs to convert. I have somewhere other copies of the problematical TIFFs, however, they will take some finding. As I ‘said’ earlier I processed the files in batches of 40, the error message appeared immediately I attempted to process the files. The counter in the adjustment box showed 0 from 50 in the queue. What is strange is the fact that I converted hundreds of TIFFs to JPEGs before the problem surfaced. The only other error message I have received is one to the effect that Qimage cannot find the q.bmp file. I cured this by re-installing the programme, this was some weeks before the problem under discussion cropped up. When I find the copies I will attempt to convert them. If they still prove problematical I will ‘e’ mail you copies if the files concerned and the screen shots that pop up. As I ‘said’ [post 5] I have processed around 400 files without any problem what so ever including the problem file.

Hi, Good morning.
I am afraid you lost me.
I can convert as many tIFs as I wish, and Qimage never deletes the tifs; just makes JPGs too.
Why do you need to find other copies of the problematical Tiffs?
