Title: Outputting raw conversions as 16bit tiff and ProPhoto RGB
Post by: apsphoto on November 03, 2012, 08:43:06 PM
HI,

Is there any way to convert a set of raw files and save them as Prophoto color space and 16bit tiff files? I can get 8bit tiff and Adobe RGB but I thought maybe I was missing in the preferences. If I cannot that is disappointing..... Just trying to fit it all in to my work flow.

QU is an 8 bit program but you can convert to any colour space you like in the Convert Images dialogue.
There is a screen shot in this post http://ddisoftware.com/tech/qimage-ultimate/colour-profiles-in-files-converted-to-jpg/msg12764/#msg12764 (http://ddisoftware.com/tech/qimage-ultimate/colour-profiles-in-files-converted-to-jpg/msg12764/#msg12764)
I assume you are wanting to do significant "fancy" editing outside QU, hence 16 bit.
If not, then you can print from the raw and, assuming it's available, use a custom camera profile in QU for raw processing. Also, I'd point out that QU does have an image editor that works on the raw image that has most of the basic tools and more including the unique Deep Focus and Tone Targeted Sharpening.

You might like to read Mike's article that covers 16 bit printing and large colour spaces here:

Thanks Terry that is what I thought about the 8bit. Yes I am wanting to do significant editing outside of Qimage, and I just use prophoto as the working space to be consistent with the way photoshop is setup. I love printing from qimage but I wanted to convert some raw files and then edit them. DCraw does a bit better with the raw conversions with the X-Pro 1 than the ACR versions. So I was hoping to use Qimage Ultimate as an engine to convert and then edit normally then print in Qimage. Oh well not the end of the world but something I will have to work around.
