Using HP Z3100 with 24" roll however I set up the size of my paper, on the preview it comes out portrait orientation.  Example:  four 4x6 postcards will have all 4x6 images lined up along the right side irrespective that clearly Landscape is checked.  I end up wasting a lot of paper.
Is this something that can be corrected within Qimage (v. 2014.255) or does the problem rest with HP Utility?
In searching for an answer within Qimage I went to "Utilities" on the tool bar and then clicked on "Migrate/Copy Application data...".  This was mostly to locate data on my C drive to eliminate the many print size options that I made in trying to get around the orientation issue.  Doing so, however, resulted in, "Access violation at address 75D71602 in Module 'shell32.dll'.  Read of address 01AA9CA."  I have no idea what this could mean but could hint toward the direction to solve my orientation dilemma in that perhaps something within my Qimage setup got corrupted?
Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Can you please explain what you see on Qimage's preview screen?
Please tell us the page size.... all we know is you have a 24" roll of paper, and 4- 4x6 post cards on the page.
What are you trying to do?  See screen snap with three images in a landscape orientation on a landscape page

Howard

It sounds like you've set the page dimensions in the printer setup to 6x4.
Try setting the page size (as Fred suggested) to 24 x 12 (or whatever) in the printer driver,  and add the prints using 6x4 from the print properties window.

Thank you both for your input.
It is my hope that the two jpg images of my screen within Qimage and the HP Z3100 setup will clarify my problem.  Please note that orientation within the HP setup as well as Qimage is set at Landscape, but, it prints as Portrait.
Please find my error and/or suggest a workaround.

Note: Both these images are less than 200kb, but I seem not to be able to add them both in this replay.  So, I'll send another "reply" just to upload the second image to the post.  I fear that if I were to reduce the images sizes any more you'll be unable to read the script.

Howard,
I didn't get any specific answers, but I can see by your screen snaps that you have a page size of 24 x 8 with a printable area of 23.606 x 7.606
I cannot figure out that HP Z printer with all the convolutions you applied to the driver.
But I did take an Epson 7900 printer and set it up with the same size page and 4- 6 x 4 prints centered on the page.I assume you want your images to be printed as I show in my screen snap. This took about 30 seconds.
I did nothing in the driver other than to tell it roll paper and 24.02 x 8.0. Then I would tell it what kind of paper I was using and my quality settings and last (in my case) No color Management because I use a color profile to print.
What you see in my screen snap, is what Qimage is sending to the printer. If in the print, or print preview, it is not like that, your driver settings are causing the change.
Perhaps, with a little luck, Ernst will read this and pop in with the solution. He is the HP Z series printer expert.

The "name" that I applied to that setting is 24x8, but the actual size is, yes, something slightly less than that, as you've noted from my attached image.  You'll also note that Qimage is showing all four approx size 5x7 images aligned as they should be, in Landscape view.  I presume that Qimage is getting this information form my HP setup, where I established the "24x8" print frame in Landscape view.
Looking at my HP setup image, it is shown that Landscape is checked (as it should be) and the print size is the 24x8 stipulated.  In this image is the first sign that something may be wrong.  You'll notice in my other screenshot of the HP setup a small window showing how the paper on the roll will be cut, Portrait and not Landscape.  Assuming that just that corner "portrait" picture isn't really what's going to happen to my print, as everything is set up for Landscape, I proceeded with the print process asking the software to first show me a preview.  Gads, that's when the preview also shows in portrait orientation of my requested landscape print.
I went through this process several times changing my HP setup in different configurations and each time it failed to give me the requested Landscape view.  I finally decided to go ahead and allow it to print.  Mistake.  It spit out a 24x24 chunk of paper with two small 5x7 prints lined up one on top the other before I could get the machine to stop printing.
Having now made up many different sizes under different names (as the 24x8), I sought to delete some of them.  To quickly get to the folder where such information is stored in Qimage, I clicked on the "Utilities" of Qimage to locate the folder.  The rest of that story is stated in my first inquiry on this forum yesterday.  It hints that something may be amiss in Qimage.
Before I uninstall and reinstall both Qimage and my HP Utility, it is my hope that someone here may shortcut my possible solutions, or, at best, pinpoint what I've done wrong.
Thanks again.

Howard,

I am not at my studio so I don't have a computer with the HP Z3xxx driver at hand, but have a look on the "Feature" tab of the driver's window. There are a check box named "rotate print 90 degrees" or something like that. It may be the cause of your problems.

Good luck.

I did not read the entire thread. But when I get the Z driver in a mood that it turns what should have been landscape on a roll into portrait, I know what to check. The width of the roll as measured by the printer is shown in the driver on the paper quality page, Currently loaded paper etc. Often in inches BTW. Just below where you can set the print page size. If it differs from the manufacturer's roll width specification then go by what the printer measured or better take an extra mm more off when creating the print page size. That is with the PCL3 driver, where you create a print page size including the print margins, Qimage Ultimate will show that print size above the preview page but then without print margins so for a roll roughly 10mm in both directions less. Within that size your image nestings should fit.

The HP Z PS3 driver already reduces the print margins in the driver so a page size created there gets the same size in Qimage Ultimate. That does not change the fact that rolls can be slighly smaller or measured smaller by the printer and create the issue described above.

Such a solution!  Who would have thought?!
Thank you Fred, Brian, Geraldo and mostly Ernst for finally coming up with the solution.
The driver's specs for the 24" roll is stated as 23.88".  So, when I inserted a dimension of 24" thinking the logic of a 24" roll, the driver "thought" the only way Howard was going to get prints on a 24" paper is to make what Howard thinks is a "landscape" orientation, into a "portrait".  Out fooled!
