First time poster...so please excuse my ignorance.  I am a very happy user of Qimage Ultimate.  I print using my Epson 3880 and have been rendering beautiful prints, with no issues.  Its been a month or so since my last print session and today, I have run into a problem that I can't seem to resolve.

I will describe my workflow and settings and hopefully someone can find out what is going on.

I almost always process my files print specific.  That is, I do all adjustments, etc...and save each file cropped specifically for what print I want.  Once all that is done, I then add my own signature/copyright symbol sized just for that image and save as a Print file.

With Qimage Ultimate, I have created several preset jobs.  I then just have to Recall what job setting I want to implement and then pick the files I want and done.  Now, for some reason...upon recalling the job setting I want, pick the image, my prints are not placed correctly on the print and this eliminates part of my signature/copyright symbol.

Specifically, today I wanted to print a 5x7 of an image of my daughter.  I opened the 5x7 job settings, which has 5x7 as the paper size, borderless is clicked.

When I print preview this, Qimage is cropping off part of the image and the result is most of my signature is cut off.  I have tried various things to prevent this, to no avail.  Can someone help out?  I was able to do all of this before with no issues at all, not sure what has changed to create this issue.  Thanks in advance.

I should add that the print size selected is 5x7 in this case.  In the Print Que, it shows as a full 5x7 as well..  I have tried to print various print sizes on various papers (all borderless) and the issue is there as well...some how Qimage is cropping off part of the image, which is saved print size specific.  I am confused...

Why borderless unless you are using 5 x 7 paper?
Borderless will expand the image and can cut off some.
OR you have the crop scissors on an image which is not in a 5 x 7 format, so Qimage Ultimate complies with your request to make a 5 x 7, and needs to crop a side to make it a full 5 x 7.
Really need more definitive information.
When you save it as a print to  file, what dimensions do you use? Is the Print to File set to a ratio of 5 x 7?

Fred,

I am using 5x7 paper.  The original file was created and saved AFTER cropping it to the 5x7 dimensions.  Knowing that Borderless expands the image, I am always very careful about my signature/copyright placment and make sure they are in away from the edges just a bit.  The amount being cut off is not just a little bit, over half of my signature is cut off.  Thanks for your reply...hope a remedy can be found so I can finish the print order.

QU won't crop it unless the original was not a 7:5 ratio.  So what is the resolution of the image and what size shows on the preview page when you hover over the print with the mouse?  Also check to see if there is a scissors icon on the print itself on the preview page: if so, you've created a crop in the full page editor and you can click that icon to remove it.

You know, this whole thing would be easier if you just cropped the print in QU's full page editor and used QU's copyright/signature to place your sig.  Then no matter how you crop it, QU knows where to place the sig.  "Preparing" a 5x7 print outside of QU pretty much defeats the purpose of QU.  You shouldn't have to do that.  Cropping should be done at print time and the cropping tool in QU's full page editor is there so that you can crop what you want at any size or aspect ratio.

Regards,
Mike

Ok next question.
Does it look OK on screen but the prints are cropping the signature?

When I print preview this

I just spotted this...
I think the print driver has a check mark in some Expand box or a Scaling box.

Try This.
Go to Help in Qimage Ultimate and click on RESET PRINTER SETTINGS

Now try print preview. It should be OK. Remember to redo the paper selection, borderless, quality, color management settings before you commit to paper.

Hmmm...more issues.  I have the Print Preview option checked so it opens up in Epson's Print Preview box prior to actual printing.  I did this so as to see what is going to print and perhaps save ink and paper if its not correct.  In so doing, I can then see the signature is chopped off.

I have tried to do as you suggest, to no avail.  In fact, when I try to reset printer driver settings, Qimage crashes...never had that happen before.

As to creating a signature and saving it within Qimage, I just learned of that, and I will look into it more.  If I understand it, no matter what print size, the signature will print the same size, correct?

Can I create this signature in photoshop and then save it to the signature folder in Qimage?  Does it matter what file type it is?  More research is needed, and I will do so after I figure out how to get passed this issue.  Thanks for your help.

If everything looks OK on screen except the print preview box, then the driver is screwing up the works.
A crash when click HELP RESET PRINTER>
I would uninstall the printer driver and reinstall it.
But wait for Mike. He will have it without guessing.

Thanks Fred.  I sent in a help request to Mike via email when I first discovered the issue.  I then discovered this forum and registered and asked here hoping to get help and fix it right away.  I will wait for Mike's response...I can and will wait to get this right.  LIke I said, I have changed nothing (that I am aware of) and was getting prints exactly like I wanted until today.

Thanks...

UPDATE:  Just to see if it would work, I un-installed the driver and did a fresh install.  Set up everything as it should and the problem persists.

I then went back to a previous print job, that printed properly, and went through it as if going to print some of the files in that folder.  I had Print Preview checked so to see if the issue was present and to my surprise, the issue is present in these files as well.

I then took a file that is NOT cropped and processed it.  I then opened it in Qimage and selected various print sizes, and used the crop tool within Qimage to move the final result to show my signature/copyright, etc...then saved that filter.  When previewing that image with the filter on, THE PROBLEM IS PRESENT still.  So, it seems to me that no matter how I get to the point of printing, the end result is an error in that the image is being cropped.  Hope that made sense.

Thanks,
Jason

Jason,
I need one more bit of information!
Is the image OK in the Qimage screens before you click PRINT?
Does everything show the correct size and placement of the signature with nothing chopped off on the Qimage Ultmate screens?

Fred when I select that file and the image shows up in the Que it looks fine, the signature is all there, etc...  The only place where it doesn't view correctly is after I hit print, and in the Epson Print Preview window, I can then see its not correct.

Thanks,

Jason

This says: "Qimage sent the correct information to the driver." Something after creating and sending the data to the driver is causing the clipping of the print.
Is the print size OK, just the contents are cropped and disturbed?

Last item. Don't load any previous JOB.
Make up your print manually.
There might be a saved corruption or saved bad setting in the job setup which is confusing the driver.

Hi Jason,

It must be the driver casing the problem which points to borderless expansion.
The expansion on my Epson is 4.5% which makes a 7x5 increase to 7.32 x 5.23.
You can see what your 3880 is doing by  noting the printer resolution reported from the driver by QU. It is the numbers in brackets above the page preview on the main screen. For Epson is is normally 720 ppi, with finest detail set, otherwise it's 360 ppi. With borderless set, these numbers will be higher.
You can turn off the expansion completely in QU, Edit Preferences, Print & Page formatting. Try that.
