Title: Printing captions
Post by: billjohnson101 on July 09, 2022, 09:13:52 PM
I am unable to print metadata Captions under my photos. In Edit Page, I bring up Add Floating Text and choose Advanced. I enter $D, but the Caption does not print.  All the other option codes work fine. What am I doing wrong?

Works for me.  Are you sure the image in question has an IPTC Description?  And your floating text is linked to that image?

Mike

In Lightroom Classic, 'Caption' appears in the Basic Info section.  There is no 'Caption' nor 'Description' field in the IPTC sections. So I used the former.  In Qimage only 'IPTC Caption' is offered.  Is that the problem? I cannot see how to add 'IPTC Caption' or 'IPTC Description' to Lightroom.

Yes.  Qimage supports IPTC data.  This video shows how to add IPTC data in LR:

Unfortunately the video you reference does not cover adding a metadata field to LR that is not already there.  The 'IPTC Caption' field is not included among the fields that I can use within LR, and the 'Caption' field that LR does offer does not print in Qimage.  So I am still left with no solution to printing captions in Qimage.

OK.  Your issue is with LR then.  IPTC is the standard for customized metadata and the function you are using in Qimage is clearly labelled "IPTC Caption" so you know you need to use the IPTC field.  Lightroom can add IPTC fields and they don't already have to be there.  Would suggest you consult a LR forum or do your own search as I'm unable to help you with specifics for LR: I don't have it and have no use for it.

Even though I don't use it, it is my understanding that you can drop down the selection to the left of the "Metadata" tab and select "IPTC" in the dropdown.  Once you do that, you have access to all the IPTC fields (and they don't already have to be populated).  See attached.

The problem is just with the names, the 'Description' field in Lightroom is called 'Caption' in QI.
These screenshots are from the same photo:

That is not a problem.  Headline/Caption are used interchangeably.  See the IPTC spec:

Okay, I got it working.
Operator error.
The problem was that I was making metadata changes in lightroom which I did not save to the file.

Sorry for the false alarm.
Qimage is a great product!
I use it for all my printing.
Thank you for what you do and for your support.
