Print/ink analysis

Hi Guys,
Came across this great feature "print/ink analysis."

not sure what it means.
Can see paper printed area. that makes sense.
cannot see any ink usage.
what does "saved" mean?

can any wise men/women/both please guide me and educate me??

Hi Paul,
It has been a long time, but I recall that you open auto Job log as you did, and select one or a groups of items, right click, hit ink analysis, and you get numbers.

Now we wait for Terry or Dennis, Brian, or someone who crunches number well.
One or all should be along soon.

Paul,
Terry has a daughter that lives in Sydney or just outside of it, and coincidentally, a close friend of mine went to Sydney on Saturday for a week to see his grand daughter who lives and works in Sydney.
His grand daughter works for some company that makes food aromas and other smells and tastes.
All I know is that he is going to the opera in Sydney to see AIDA.

I did email Terry to get his behind on here to answer your question, and he was cleaning his car.
Will be along shortly.

I saw a picture of Terry's daughter... she is gorgeous.
So happy she takes her looks from Eileen and not Terry.

Ink usage would be difficult to monitor from QU. It needs you to monitor your cartridge replacements over time and then relate that to the printed area of all the jobs in that period. It's a tricky thing to do as each colour has a different usage rate and will depend on the paper and images used.
I think pro printers may use this feature for costing purposes by using a simple average cost per unit area of print.
I don't know what the "saved" area is; I think it may be to do with using roll paper.
For those who are wondering what we are talking about, the print/ink analysis is shown when you select jobs in the log and right click, see attached screen shot.

Very simply it is what you think it isn't and isn't what you think it is.

I understand fully. It is a pretty panel designed by Mike to help you guess when to buy more paper.

In a nutshell...........still not sure what the panel is telling me.

Perhaps Mike can elaborate?

I usually guess I need more paper when the package gets lighter and thinner.

I already mentioned it to Mike as I leave him a message before he gets on.

Printed = a printed job that actually went to the printer
Saved = a job that you saved manually

So if you look in your "Open Automated Job Log" folder that stores the jobs as they are printed, you'll get all "printed" stats. If you put together a job and just save the job, that'll show up as a "saved" job rather than a "printed" job. This is useful for some people who have saved jobs and printed jobs in the same folder because you can tell which ones actually went to the printer and which ones were just saved by the user.

But Printed Area doesn't match Total Media. Can you explain further please.

Also what about ink since the menu says "Paper/Ink".

Obviously each printer and job uses different amounts. Is it possible to get some kind of average expected use from each of the printer manufacturers?
Huge headache I would imagine. Unless each one of us with different printers gave you some kind of readout/report from each printer.
maybe not be worth the effort?
maybe the user could input their own data for each job they have printed which would then be used by QU to enhance the Media report?
Perhaps fill in the last 10 jobs to get an average. My 9900 spits out a report, on request, of the last 10 jobs with the usage of each of the inks used.
