Title: Problem printing multiple pages with new Canon PRO-1000
Post by: srjacob on November 09, 2017, 01:16:39 AM
I am running Qimage Ultimate v2018.110.

I just replaced my Epson 3880 with a Canon Pro-1000 because the Epson had a severe hardware problem.

When I print to the Canon Pro1000 I get the normal print that on the display, but I then get a 3 other pages with printing along the edges of those pages.

I have emailed Mike twice about this, with no reply.  I have attached photos of the pages with my email.  A zip file of the pictures can be downloaded at www.jjworld.com/images/PicturesOfPrintProblem.zip
This never happened with the 3880 and is a total waste of paper.

It also happens when I select borderless printing.

I tried to reset the print settings, but that was no help.  The picture prints fine from photoshop.

Please help me fix this.

Steve

It very much looks like the prints size specified is too big for the printable area of the page. QU will tell you this when you load the image to the page and ask if you want to shrink to fit or spread over more pages.
Please tell us you QU settings, page size, print size driver settings etv. It's best to do this with a screen shot - you need a little program to do this like PicPick.

Hi Steve,
Terry is correct. I can see your page size, and driver settings.... but we definitely need the print size, and the reported ppi that Qimage shows when you hover the print screen.
I do have the Pro 1000 driver, but for some reason it is not exactly the same screens that you show.
Please check the driver version. Mine is 2.96
1) In screen snap 044, notice the cursor arrow. Your shot is showing a scroll bar and more selections, one of which might tell us something.

2) In snap 045, my cursor is on a grayed out button. Yours is "live" Specify Margin.
What is in there? Mine is grayed out

3)In snap 046, my cursor is showing more selections (inferring a different driver)

4) In snap 047, I am showing where you can see the driver version.

Thanks,
Fred

Thanks for responding.  I wonder why Mike didn't respond to my emails?

From the Hover:

Print size=Fit to paper
8.00 x 10.69  155 PPI
Detail-vs-size [-----v-----] 155 PPI = Good
1 Print Selected

He knows about it, but very busy ay the moment.

Please do a test for me.
I have the driver, but not the printer, and I cannot seem to activate PRINT PREVIEW. So I cannot test the results.
I am asking that you change the size from FIT TO PAPER to FIT TO PAGE, and make a print.
If that does not work, would you be able to send me the image in question?

Fred

That worked, in the sense that I didn't get the additional 3 pages of marginal printing.  However, I did get 2 additional full prints that I never asked for.

I think there is a problem in Qimage.

You can get the image here: www.jjworld.com/images/_DSF1997.jpg

It's too big to send via the forum.

The only way I know of to get three copies would be to have the same image in the queue 3 times, or have the number of copies at 3 in the driver.

Please check that.
We are making progress. So now you get a proper print, albeit with 2 additional copies. :)

Can you send me a duplicate of my screen snap attached? That is the QUEUE TAB I want to see the size and how many QU is sending to the driver
Thanks,
Fred

Got the image. Are you trying to pull the wool over our eyes?. He said sheepishly!

That comment, sir, is a bunch of sheep!

However, I am familiar enough with Qimage to know to only print one image, not 3.  Anyway, here are the screenshots.  I thought I was only printing out one copy.

I think there is some sort of problem with Qimage.  I have used Qimage for years with my old Epson 3880 without these kinds of difficulties.

Steve, seriously, the above sort of suggests a driver bug, but your screen snaps back up your certainty that there is only one copy in the queue, and if the attached (1 copy) matches yours, and your second attempt yields 3 copies, I will call Mike on the phone.

Thanks.  That is what I was trying to do by emailing him.

I wonder if there is any way to get a copy of the older driver?

I am wasting paper and valuable ink in doing this testing.

Personally, I can't tell the difference between the output of this printer and my old 3880.  I profiled both using an i1Pro2 and Profilemaker.  I use Costco photo paper for proofing.

My 7 year-old 3880 got the dreaded PK/MK ink change switch failure.  To fix it, I have to replace the ink delivery system and re-prime the ink on the printer.  Cheaper to get a new printer.

I hate Epson.

Steve, I think I found something.
I just uninstalled my driver version and in stalled your 2.97 version.
I opened the driver to set the paper size and also to see if I can use Print Preview, and guess what?
By apparent default, the driver shows 3 copies!

Qimage shows one copy, but the driver says 3. Check the actual driver.
I just opened and closed the driver a few times, and it went to 1 copy all by itself.
The check mark in Print Preview disappeared and went grayed out.

I always get 1 copy in the driver.  In my driver, the print preview allows me to check the box.

Driver shows 1 copy, I get 3.  Fortunately, I figured out how to cancel the others.

Something's buggy.

That is where the bugs lie. In their driver.
I have a Pro 100 printer. Drivers appear identical, but mine is Dye Ink.

Pro 100 is NOT a Pro 1000.  Pro-1000 is the successor to the iPF5100, and has pigment inks.  Technically, the Pro-1000 is the magePROGRAF Pro-1000 and is the smaller (17") of their professional printer line.

Steve, just went to lunch and closed Qimage. Returned and opened Qimafge to my default Pro 100. I chenged to the Pro 1000, and opened the driver, and I have 3 copies back again.
If I owned this printer I would definitely save an 8.5 x 11 glossy in Qimage printer set up after confirming it was set to 1 copy before I saved it.
I would also advise Canon.
I know the models I was just pointing out that the settings witin the drivers are in the same location.

I did save the setup, and now I am only getting one copy.

If I reported it to Canon, they would ignore me (as Epson always did).  If you or Mike reported it, they might fix it.

OK, I had a chance to walk to the other building and try our Pro-1000.  I'm not able to reproduce the problem: I always got 1 in copies in the driver and always got 1 copy out of the printer.  So unfortunately I can't report it if I can't repeat it.  I've been following the advice here and the only other thing I could suggest (if the problem comes back) is to select the Pro-1000 and then click the "Reset preferences to printer defaults" button to the right of the Properties button on the Printers and Settings tab.  Then choose "Printer".  Then set up all the driver settings manually (don't load any saved setups or jobs).  That would reset the saved driver settings: in case there was something in the "remembered" driver settings that was causing multiple copies.

Regards,
Mike

Thanks, Mike,

However, there is still the issue of "Fit to Page" vs "Fit to Paper".

"Fit to Paper" give me the oversize print that fills 4 pages.
"Fit to Page" seems to print correctly.

This seems to be a problem.  I should get the same results since the page size is the paper size.
