Title: Problem with long exposure night photo.
Post by: DdeGannes on May 08, 2013, 01:19:14 AM
I have participated in a Lightroom thread trying to optimize an image with a moonlight setting very underexposed. There are some reasonable renditions within Lightroom, however I have not been able to achieve a reasonable rendition using Qimage Ultimate.
While Qimage is my printing software of choice since 2003, I have not used it very often for processing raw files. My main problem is adjusting white balance and exposure. While Qimage does a good job automatically for a high percentage of reasonably exposed images I have problems with images that are poorly exposed or where the white balance is incorrect.

The link below is one that contains a link to a raw file that creates problems for me processing in QIU.

Any one care to have a shot at it.?

I will put the file on "yousendit" and send you the link. It was in the thread but I am not seeing it now.

See attached.

Hi Dennis,
see attached for my attempt with your image. It was hard for me to know what you would expect because I was not there.
I used auto WB and a clicked the middle rectangle top row to get a blue outline and +20 fill in raw refine. Then adjustments in the editor, Curves, Sel Col,  DFS (except blue sky tone to show detail in the moon and shadow noise reduction.
I don't expect it to look like what you saw or trying to achieve  ::)  ;)

Thanks Terry, I will give it another try to see what I could achieve based on the info you have provided. The image is not mine it was posted on the thread in the Lightroom Forum that I posted earlier.

Hi Dennis.
Took the liberty of playing with the image.
It's one of those images that rests in the eye  of the beholder.
Just messing with White Balance can make a completely different approach and result.

Here's one with much more detail in the moon craters.
