Title: Problem with Media Type selection
Post by: aebolzan on July 21, 2020, 02:45:10 PM
I have just installed an Epson P800 and the profiles for the papers I plan to use (Hahnemuehle). Images are processed with Capture One Pro. The problem I found is that in the Media Type menu option, there is no way to select the papers from Hahnemuehle, only those corresponding to Epson papers appear....I do not know how important this is or affects the final result. I have selected the icc profile corresponding to the Epson P800+ Photo Rag paper in "Printe Profile" option....currently I am running the trial version in order to see if I will use CO directly or Qimage Ultimate instead.

The Hahnemuehle profiles should come with instructions on what media type to select.  As far as I know, you can't add custom media types to a P800 so their instructions would have to include which Epson paper type to choose for the paper you are using.  Then you would choose the appropriate Hahnemuehle profile.  If you don't find the Hahnemuehle profile (you may have to scroll down the list a bit), it means the Hahnemuehle profiles have not been installed properly.  To install a profile, you have to right click on the profile and choose "Install".  Windows will then put the profiles in the Windows profile directory and Qimage can see/choose them.

Regards,
Mike

Augustin,
It has been my experience that Printer manufacturers rarely if ever show another brand of paper. The paper company like (Hahnemuehle, Red River, Lexjet, etc. ) make profiles for their papers and your printer. When they make the profiles, they have to select a paper listed by Epson to make the target. They will specify when you download the profile, which paper selection to use from the P800 list.
Look through their instruction sheets.

Well, following your comments, I have checked the Hahnemuehle information and set the media as Velvet Fine Art Paper...and tested the results... To tell you the truth, I was shocked by the difference between printing directly from Capture One Pro or exporting as tif and then printing the tif file from Qimage Ultimate...the quality of  the CO print was not so good...darker and less sharp than that obtained using  Qimage (I was testing a Black and White image). I also found that it was not good to try to adjust the tones of the image for printing with the Epson/Hahnemuehle profile  to those observed when using the Adobe 1998 profile for the screen: printed version appeared too dark (maybe this is what should be expected?...I don't know...this is my first with a printer!)...but for the moment Qimage seems the way to go....

By the way: the Adobe 1998 version on the screen shows deeper blacks, but If I try to reproduce such blacks by means of a layer that corrects the luminosity values, the printer puts too much ink on the paper and the final result is not nice at all....
