Title: Problem with Profile for Oly E300 in Qimage Ultimate. Post by: DdeGannes on August 08, 2010, 05:04:16 PM I just completed the purchase of Qimage Ultimate. I previously purchased a profile for my E300 which I used intermittantly with the Studio edition.
While testing Ultimate I identified a problem with the rendering of a raw file which I posted in a previous thread. Quote " This is an example of a problem file where the camera auto wb was on. Picture was taken a couple days ago. I did processing in LR as usual and also tried Qimage Ultimate. The screen capture shows the resulting jpeg from LR on the left at default settings, the center image is with wb changed from as shot to daylight in LR. The image on the right is the Qimage rendition, which shows some problem areas in the background which I am not sure how to correct within the raw refine window. I am also posting a link to the original raw file. http://www.yousendit.com/download/T1VsZGlsaTFVVGxFQlE9PQ Is there any way the profile could be checked and updated? The same problem is evident in the studio edition and only goes away when I disable the "Enable custom profiles" choice in the raw preferences. I see what you mean now... Not only is there a strong push on the blue outline around the tree leaves, but if you look carefully, there's a red outline tracing the outer edge of the blue. This is definitely something to have Mike Chaney have a look at. I have a couple of questions though, and it would be helpful to know: This aberration shows in all images shot outdoors, certain ones? I see ISO 100, yet the image is very noisy! (See sky area) Is this normal for the camera? Let's wait for Mike. Fred Title: Re: Problem with Profile for Oly E300 in Qimage Ultimate. Post by: DdeGannes on August 09, 2010, 10:00:22 AM You will see in the earlier thread I posted another screen shot which shows a similar shot taken a few seconds before which does not display any problem. I have not had this problem before so i would say it is an isolated case.
Title: Re: Problem with Profile for Oly E300 in Qimage Ultimate. Post by: Fred A on August 09, 2010, 10:53:43 AM Just a curiosity at this point. Could you scrutinize a few other shots from that sequence and see if they are noise free compared to the ORF you posted?
I'll bet they are probably fine, but it would be good to hear it from you. Once is a while on my 20D Canon, if I am shooting too fast in RAW mode, I get the odd washed out ghost image in a frame, like it didn't recharge fast enough. Fred Title: Re: Problem with Profile for Oly E300 in Qimage Ultimate. Post by: DdeGannes on August 09, 2010, 11:19:02 AM I am not seeing any unsual amount of noise in the image. The texture of the plant is as it looks with the magenta tinge.

Post by: admin on August 09, 2010, 01:54:16 PM I looked at the ORF and the E-300 profile and it looks like in that particular shot, there is something causing the sky around the trees to shift just a little toward purple. It would normally not be noticeable but the E-300 has a very narrow transition between blue and purple, so to get colors accurate, there is an abrupt change near the blue/purple border in the profile. That is what is magnifying the problem. It's possible that, given a better target shot, I could make a profile that is less prone to the blue/purple transition. If any E-300 owner has an IT8 and wants to take a shot or two, please let me know and it's possible I could update the E-300 profile to a better one.

In this instance, is the lens chosen (colour coatings, etc) going to have more effect than for cameras that do not have this sharp transition. Just wondering. Fred Were you joking, Fred? What speed will a 20D do in RAW? No joke, I think the camera needs servicing if that happens. |
