Hi

I have always been sending print files to my EPSON 7800 Printer direct for over 10 years now.
I am planning to outsource my photo print work to a lab who does only dye printing.

Will it be possible to send the qimage photo files to be saved as a file (jpeg ot tiff) to enable the Lab to print it.

can this be done?
Thank

Palani

Hi Palani,
Welcome to the forum.

The short answer is yes.
Assuming you are running the latest version, in the Printers and settings tab, right click the properties button to open the Print to File dialogue. See attached screen shot. It's fairly obvious what to enter but if you click the red V in the bottom right hand corner, there's some video help. However the video is for a previous version where the UI is different but the Print to File dialogue is very similar.

Thank you very much Terry

I did it. one more doubt, Please tell me how will you handle this. While printing to file I find that i have to specify the paper size.
but, I cannot predict how the printer will handle this. Do I have to specify the paper size to the same size of the picture + margin, is it.

Sorry for this dumb doubt.

No, the size is the printed size, not paper size.
You need to contact your print lab to ask what they require for print resolution and image colour space. They may be able to handle any resolution (as QU does) providing it is equal or above a minimum.
You may know from how QU works, it's best that the resolution is equal to or an exact fraction/multiple of the printer native resolution. The lab should be able to tell you this - or ask what printer they are using and look it up.
I have no experience of using a lab to make prints for myself.

Hi Palani,
Terry asked me to pop in here and see if I can clarify. (He is tangled in Christmas lights in his attic)

I made a few screen snaps that should do the trick

1) Terry is absolutely correct that you should ask the printer these simple questions: What resolution do you prefer, and what color space do you require.?
He may say that the best resolution for us is 300ppi or 360ppi, depending on the brand of printer.  (Hold this thought. We will come back to it)

2) Colorspace.... He may say sRGB, or Adobe RGB, or if he is really a pro, he will tell you that they have their own color profile for their printer and paper, and he will give you a copy to set your image in.  (We will come back to this also)

Next. The Print to File screen (P2F) shows the current page and print size as it will become one.  Snap 126
There is a button to make it match current page and resolution of 300 ppi. snap 129

I made a screen snap of the original Qimage screen, ready to print. Looking at the label, you see my crop scissor is off and the print size will be 10 x 6.62. Snap 127
I then made a P2F and Qimage melded the image into a shot of the image plus paper into one. Snap 128
Looking closely, you can see that both images in the queue are almost identical. Yet one is the original, and the other is a lookalike but the image included the page as one. So sending that to the printer will result in exactly what you see at your specified print size.
Palani, I need more room for another picture, and I have reached the limit of 4 per post.
I will make a second post below.
to be continued........

To continue
Looking at the work screen attached here
This is where you set the ppi, the resolution he asks for.
The Results will include his specs for resolution and also color space. You have a button for Adobe, RGB or custom profile.
Below that, you have a dot for keep original size or make the whole print page size.
You have many tools to work with and to suit your needs.

** If the printer tells you, "We can handle any resolution you give us, then no need to use P2F (unless you have captions).
Just give him your image as you saved it after tweaking. The less times you mix the pixels in another intepolation, the better the print.
