I downloaded the above video and have found that the my TV reports that audio codec is not supported.

Other QI videos are fine.

Anyone else had this experience?

Cheers

Peter,
As a rule, I don't watch the videos on a regular TV either... (But what a good idea!!)
So I used YOU TUBE downloader which is a free program, and it created an AVI file from the YOUTUBE video.
Then I played that file on my TV through an old XBOX.
Doesn't seem to be any problem.
How do you prepare the file and show it?

Hello Fred.

I simply choose an mp4 version of the video (if available, otherwise flv) and save the video using the Mozilla plugin DownloadHelper. On the PC I then serve the video using Serviio (free excellent media server) and view on my Samsung TV via media input function.

It generally works well, looks good and gets me away from the PC screen!

There seems to be something "different" about the audio in that particular video file. The file remained in flv format because the normal mp4 format didn't seem to be available on YouTube.

It's no big deal.

Regards

Peter

Could be....
I make a video in WMV format at 1080. I send it to Mike who edits it and he sends that to YOUTUBE.
They make some conversions before it gets to the web.

Maybe Mike knows ...

I have just discovered that there is also no audio on my Macbook pro (sorry I didn't check previously). So it is not specifically a TV problem.

By the way, thank you very much for producing the video.

He does more of the work. I just have fun ...
(He makes me do it. He just says, "No updates for you until you make that video")

Obviously a hard task master!

Was beginning to think you are up very late but, of course, it's morning in Fl. Near midnight here in NZ.

I have just discovered that the video doesn't play at all on the PC!!

By the way, in case you are wondering what video?

There's a new video to replace the old obsolete one on Getting Started.
It also included the use of the new Data Base.
Worth a new repeat look!!

Yes, it was the new version I was referring to.

A downloaded copy of the original getting started version plays fine.

There is no audio on a downloaded copy of the new version, no matter what device/OS I try it on.

Very perplexing.

Hi Peter,
I just tried playing it as a YOUTUBE video by a double click on the 720 video link. I think automatically, Adobe Flash Player picks it up to play,
If I actually download the file and double click it, then whatever "OPEN WITH" setting is current as the default for that file suffix will play it.

I think you said you play it on your TV...  In an effort to locate the difficulty, are you getting NO audio on the TV only, or no audio regardless if you play your downloaded file in the PC?
Will you get audio if you just play it as a Youtuve without downloading.?

Is your software the latest version?  e.g.  Windows Media Player, VLC player, whichever you use?
The downloaded video file is not what I made or Mike made. The downloaded video is a conversion to a YOUTUBE video done by YOUTUBE.

If you wish, I can probably send you a split file in WMV format... (half getting started, and half getting started on the Data Base)

I would just need your email address.

Thanks for getting back to me Fred.

TV playing was merely the first time I tried to play the downloaded FLV file. I have since tried it on the latest VLC on Mac OSX and Win XP Pro. No joy with the audio.

This my first experience with this type of problem.

I suspect the regeneration of the file by Mike and/or YouTube may have caused the glitch.

Thanks, but it's probably not worth sending the WMV. I'll just watch it online as designed!
