Title: QU under Mac Parallels color management Post by: johnlill on September 12, 2013, 03:23:49 PM I switched to a Mac but I purchased Parallels just so that I could continue to use Qimage. I just upgraded to version 2014.116, although I'm not sure when this problem began. When I go to Preferences->Color Management, it tells me that my monitor profile is not a monitor profile. I copied the current profile from the Mac ColorSync folder to c:\windows\system32\spool\drovers\color but QU still says it's not a monitor profile. Then I clicked in the Prtr ICC box under Job Properties and clicked "choose new profile" but when I click on the 3 dots to select a profile, the browse box opens up behind the existing window and I cannot move it or bring it to the front to select the proper profile. ANyone else running QU under Parallels experiencing these color management issues? Any suggestions?
I would REALLY miss QU if I am no longer able to use it :'( John L Title: Re: QU under Mac Parallels color management Post by: LindaJ on September 19, 2013, 01:01:16 AM John - I just switched to a Mac and am running Windows under VMware Fusion so I could keep QImage for printing.
I ran into the same problem as you and never got an answer from a couple of forum posts (not here though). Then I realized I really don't have a problem. My monitor is profiled and I edit in Lightroom. I save to a jpg or tiff or psd file for printing in QImage. After a bit of testing I realized my prints were matching my Lightroom screen, so now I just open QImage, choose the saved edited file, choose the appropriate paper profile and go. I think because I am using the same monitor for both OS's there is no issue as long as I make my monitor profile the default profile. This may or may not make sense to you - maybe I just got lucky. :-) Linda Title: Re: QU under Mac Parallels color management Post by: PH Focal-Scape on September 19, 2013, 07:54:01 PM John - I just switched to a Mac and am running Windows under VMware Fusion so I could keep QImage for printing. I have been running QI using Virtualbox (Win 7 64bit guest) on my Macbook Pro for a few years. QI states sRGB for the screen profile and the images look fine. I haven't detected any difference between the same images displayed on the colour calibrated host and the guest. Besides, I use QI U for composing and printing and therefore if the displayed QI images were "off" it actually doesn't matter. All editing is done with the custom calibrated host. Peter PS Mike, may I suggest you also list Virtualbox as a virtual machine option. Title: Re: QU under Mac Parallels color management Post by: johnlill on September 20, 2013, 01:16:16 PM Linda,
Thanks! I also do most of my editing in Lightroom and my QU prints match LR when I select the proper paper profile in QU. Also, when I just upgraded to Parallels 9 the problem with QU stating that my monitor profile was not a valid monitor profile went away. So all is well! Thanks also to Peter for taking the time to reply and confirm what Linda said. John L |
