I have a Windows 10 running Qimage, I have just purchase a Epson 9800. The problem is the printer is located 900 feet from the PC. I would like to send the output of Qimage to a PDF file and have that file spooled at the printer on the Linux system next to it. When ready for the next job the Linux system send the spooled PDF to the printer, pretty basic stuff. My problem is I can't get Qimage to print to a PDF, why is this feature blocked?

Nothing is blocked! QU does not have a built-in print to pdf feature like Microsoft Word.
You need a separate PDF "Printer" such as Tracker software PDF-XChange V6 Printer Driver. You can download the free version here https://www.tracker-software.com/product/pdf-xchange-lite.
This appears as a printer in Devices & Printers so will show as a printer in the QU list. See the screen shot below.
Also you will see the Microsoft pdf printer (I'd forgotten that!) but the Tracker driver is much better.

For images, you'll have to be careful with the printer profile used for the pdf printer, I don't believe pdf files are colour managed. I set sRGB and got reasonable results.
It's not the way to reproduce best quality images.

PS.
Can't you network the Epson 9800? A quick Google seems to show you can.

As Terry says, the best answer is to add the printer to your network and avoid any of the problems with the pdf route, many 9800s work very happily on networks.

Qimage is photo printing software and thus doesn't handle documents (PDF's) directly.  I'm sure there are many ways to handle this but converting a photo printing job to a document format (PDF) only to convert it back to a photo job (printer "pixels") at the end point would be the least desirable.  If the Linux box is the driving factor, although you can run Qimage under Wine on Linux, the easiest solution would be to get a $150 PC and place it at the endpoint with the 9800 and network it.  Regardless of how it is done, you have to get the data that 900 feet to the endpoint: might as well go the direct route.
