Good morning all.
There seems to be a change which has crept in at some point, or I'm missing something.
I Raw Refine a EOS 7D image, then add some improvements in the Image Editor, then Save Filtered Image.
See the attachment for my settings.
The resultant jpeg has the colors much diminished. It's flat and lifeless, nothing like the original RAW.
I'm using 247.
Filtering and saving jpgs seems to work AOK.

Any assistance is much appreciated.

I don't see an issue here when I repeat your steps so I'm thinking your thumbs/raw cache just need to be rebuilt.  As a test, select the thumb of that same image on the main window and then right click and select "Rebuild Selected Thumb(s)".  Then repeat the (editing and saving) process for that image.  If the problem goes away, you may want to clear all thumbs/raw cache via the utilities menu.  An ICC profile for the 7D was added recently and it might be best to just clear the cache and thumbs so they are rebuilt as you visit each folder.  Doing so will ensure that the new color/profile is applied correctly and nothing ends up out-of-sync.

Thanks Mike.
I cleared the cache but the saved filtered images are still flat.
I've attached two examples. The nice one has the Perform profile to profile conversion ticked. It's a good match to the filtered RAW.
What I'm experiencing seems to affect images from my 50D as well, and contrary to what I said in the first post, jpegs too.
But the profile conversion is my workaround which I'm happy enough with.
Two Saturdays ago my wife tripped on the step in the concrete path and dislocated her LH shoulder.
This little problem rates fairly low in the scheme of things at the moment.

Thanks and best regards,

John

John,

I am by no means an expert but until the US team awake I'll attach a screen shot of my 'Save' box.

It may help. I think that 'input' line is important but the wizards will confirm or deny.

Til then:-

Tony

PS. Sorry. Rubbish screen shot....

John,
Now that you include JPGS in the problem, that changes the problem from Raw to colorspace/

OK we need you to look at the color space in which your two 'different' jpgs are saved.
Easy to do.... just hover the mouse over the thumb of each jpg and note the information at the lower left of the screen in the Hot Bar.

Also hover over the raw image thumbnail and note that color space.

Next test is to also note whether the profile named has asterisks before and after.

Next test is to do what Tony showed you in his screen snap; create a JPG but UNCHECK the Profile Conversion.  See Snap. No check in that box.
That Jpg should be identical to the Raw image. That JPG should show the same color space profile as the Raw when you hover over the thumb.

The next snap is a sample of the hotbar where you read the information
Last snap shows Raw and Jpg identical.

You're not selecting a profile in the "ICC Override" on the edit screen are you?  The only thing I can think of that might cause a problem is if you have an ICC Override selected as part of your filter.  Keep in mind that it is an override and not a "convert to".  So for example, if you edit a raw image and enter Adobe RGB or sRGB in the ICC override, you'll  get a very dull image because you are telling QU to associate the wrong profile with the image.  That ICC Override is only to be used when doing things like tagging a scan with a pre-developed scanner profile or something like that.

Thanks for your help Fred.
I think Tony was guiding me to create a settings file to be read by QI.
I'm wanting to convert the filtered RAWs to jpgs with the filter cooked into the jpg.
I did as you instructed, definitely no profile conversion going on.
The jpgs have the asterisk around the colour space.
The resultant jpg looks good when viewed in QI, but something I've not previously stated is that when viewed in Windows Explorer or in Irfanview, or Windows Photo Viewer, they are under saturated.
I want to view the converted files outside of QI.
I hope my screenshots point to where I'm going wrong.
Thanks again.

No Mike.
ICC override and the PlugIn boxes are beyond me.
I leave them alone.
I hope my previous post points to something I'm doing wrong.

Oh, so they only look dull outside of QU (the JPG and the RAW look the same in the QU thumbnails).  That's because Irfan, Windows Viewer, and many other apps are not ICC aware so they won't (can't) use the embedded profile.  Only ICC aware applications like QU and PhotoShop can understand the embedded color profile.  So if you want them to look good in other apps or, say, on the web, you need to do a profile-to-profile conversion and convert them to sRGB color space.

Ah! I presume this is done auto when using "create web/email copies" and when saving an adobe colour space raw as tiff we have to convert from adobe to srgb.

Right.  When preparing photos for systems or software that might not be ICC aware, the best you can do is convert to sRGB which should look pretty good on most monitors without profiling.

John, you do realize by now that your save box settings are all "nutzed" up in your screen snap

It should like Tony's or mine.
Notice the FROM box says <input>
The TO box points to the sRGB profile.
That's your conversion.
From: anything to sRGB
