Got an image on a DVD.  File is huge: Adobe 1998 RGB, 1.8GB and 48-bit depth which I suspect is why I got the following QU error ("Image Read Error") attached image in the left lower view pane.

I printed it via PS (CS6) so no issue there, other than maybe a two minute wait for the printer to load it and start, but was curious as to which issue QU has with the file, either 48-bit or the 1.8GB of the original?  I noticed to in the details it was 720 dpi as well (??), Uncompressed.

Fwiw, Windows 8-64 with 12GB RAM so it shouldn't have had an issue - maybe - since PS (CS6) printed it.  Some hidden internal place where I can raise the QU image size buffer maybe? Huh?

It's probably related to the file size.

Under Help, hold down the shift key and then click on Analyze Current Settings.

That will tell you the current maximum memory available.

With my 64 bit Windows 7 system, it reports 2000MB, uncomfortably close to the 1.8GB size of your file.

Also, what are the pixel dimensions of your file?

Some comments.
QU is an 8 bit application and will read 16 bit images. There's no point in attempting to print 48 bit images as the driver is only 8 bit.

What is the pixel size of the image?

720pp is the native resolution of an Epson printer though & QU would interpolate to that.

The error you see could be caused by a PS setting. I'm not expert on PS but in the past such things as PS compatibility should be set to maximum and making sure layers are flattened have been mentioned. Check those.
The memory check that Tom mentioned checks the Windows availability, nothing to do with QU; I get 2147MB with 6GB of RAM on W7-64.
I do vaguely remember back in XP days (that had poor memory management), something being said about PS having it's own memory management.
QU does already have a managed process to send data to a printer; most applications are likely to falter with large amounts of data sent to a printer.

Okay. I did the "Analyze" part in QU > Help > Shift+Analyze:

Start: 2146 MB
Addl: 1436 MB
Now: 2146 MB

In the bottom bar in QU is this: File name.tif: 1,864,527,552 bytes, 14840 x 20940, IPTC, ICC: *Adobe RGB (1998)* (File "Details" show it as 720 dpi.)

Supposedly, it was sized for a 17 x 24.5 inch print which I thought would go into the Epson 3880 via QU, but PS-CS6 did accept and print it.  It was off a Nikon D800E camera if it matters.

More odd is that the printed image does appear soft out of PS as well.  I also altered it later in PS CS6 with its "Resize" tool and QU accepted it at 360 dpi which made it smaller at 265,284,827 bytes, 4912 x 7360 and ICC: *Nikon Adobe RGB 4.0.0.3001* for some reason got in it too.  Bit depth is still 48 and Resolution unit is 2 as was the large file, but it now prints in QU being smaller.

Oddly, the newly re-sized image is sharper than the PS made one too, but my default "Sharpen" setting in QU is 12 too.  Too bad PS cannot sharpen as well as QU does.

The original large file was stamped with CS6 as well.  Didn't know they could go that big (1.8+GB).  Getting only one TIFF image on a DVD was sort of surprising.  Can't even fit 3 onto one DVD now.

I thought the Epson was capable of 1440 dpi and it wouldn't be a printing issue as it was a 720 dpi file I was given, but seems the file size is a big deal in QU.

For fun, I loaded the large TIFF original file into Corel PaintShop Pro Ultimate X6-64 and it printed it too.

Aside, DxO Optics Pro 8 and 9 Elite don't work at all with the Epson 3880 driver so I couldn't try it with them.  They admitted to their software is having issues with Epson drivers though and plan to address it.  Works fine sending to the Canon printer out of those two.

1440dpi is NOT pixels per inch it's the spray pattern density.
720ppi is the native resolution of an Epson printer and QU uses that to get the best quality - a fundamental feature of QU.

I think this calculation is correct:
Image size 14.84Mpx x 20.94Mpx = 310.75 x 3(for R, G & B) = 932.2MB
This is well within your 2146 MB
You should be looking for other reasons (I mentioned some before) why QU is not reading your image. I any case, I think if the file was too big, QU would not complain until you attempted to print it.

To debunk any myths about QU with 16 bit and file size, I made a 312Mpx image by up-sizing in QU and then converting to 16 bit in PaintShop Pro.
It ended up as 1.88GB, very close in size to the image first mentioned in this thread.
See attached screen shot.
I placed in the queue as an A3 print and "printed" as far as print preview. QU was smooth and fast  Cool. no problem whatsoever.  Grin

Interesting, but yours was up-rezzed in QU (I noticed that [Q] in the named TIF) so I would expect it to handle what it did doing a "Print to File" within QU.  Can the same be done with CS6 without going through QU?  I don't know what was done to the file, other than it was a file out of a D800E to TIF via CS6.

The original file TIF I have came out of CS6.  My screenshot is below.

Only odd thing I noted was the original showed as "Adobe 1998 RGB," and when I scaled it down in CS6 to try (and it worked) for QU it read as "Nikon Adobe RGB 4.0.0.3001" for some strange reason.  I don't know why or how it picked up the original Nikon RGB out of the file since my default is Adobe 1998 RGB.  Huh?

** Sidebar, I have noticed with PaintShop Pro X6 that it does have some oddity over CS6 in that when I launch it even my screen shifts color a bit warmer against CS6.  I have to go back into Windows 8-64 Color Management and reset the default each time I mess with PSP X6.  I played with PSP X6 Color Management a lot, but it does seem to do some oddities against PS for some reason.

Hopefully Adobe PS isn't monkeying around with their PS TIF images.  If they are, the subscription model may be interesting in a few years when people begin having backwards compatibility issues trying to read them if they cancel their subscription (Shades of AutoDesk's AutoCAD!).

Back on topic, I noticed in the QU Help this: "If you are opening large images, make sure you have enough RAM installed and also check your Windows virtual memory settings and try increasing virtual memory."  Don't know if this may apply here?

No big deal since I got it to print, just odd.

Oh. And a "BIG YES" in that QU does a far better job of print sharpening over most all others - even Adobe!  Smiley  I sort of dread going to Ergosoft's StudioPrint 14 RIP (B&W Piezo printing) for fear it might not be sharp or much like the soft prints out of PS CS6, but maybe passing it through "Print to File" in QU will be a bit better in sharpening for it?  Guess I could try a file out of CS6 and one done through QU's "Print to File" to compare the sharpness.

I get the same error is there is something "wrong" with the image file name. Basically if it's too long...
