Hi

I'm quite new to Qimage but struggle sometimes with knowing quite the best way of doing some things.

I have a fairly complex freehand page that contains about 12 photos which was put together with freehand placement of each photo, tweaked using the "edit page".

What I sometimes want to do is swap one photo in the 12 with another. Is there an easy way to do this while retaining the exact layout/location? If I remove a specific photo from the queue and then try and add another it will place it at an arbitrary location - and then I have to go through tweaking its orientation, position etc. Is there a better way?

I would be quite neat to have a substitute or swap facility to make this easy - or perhaps I'm missing something?

Many thanks

David

Hi David,
I have done this in the past so have just checked the procedure with 10 images in the queue, 6 on page 1 and 4 on page 2, different sizes were used.
1. Make sure no images in the queue are selected.
2. Set the page to be changed to Freehand using the little red F top right of the page preview (main screen).
3. Set the default print size for the page using the right hand icon below the page preview to the size of the image to be replaced. Make sure the crop button is set the same the unwanted image.
4. Remove the unwanted image by clicking the red button on the image itself.
5 Drag the new image to where the previous one was.
This wont be precise so you will then need to accurately position it in the page editor. Use the arrow keys or set the position by entering numbers directly on the Size location tab.
Let us know how you get on. I just tested again with an image on page 2  Grin

Not exactly sure what you want to do:    Remove an image and replace it with a new one, or exchange places putting number 6 where number two is and swap?
Always remember to drag the thumb rather than click the plus.

You can use CUT to Clipboard in the Page Editor, and move stuff around and then Paste AFTER and reseat that.
Not sure what you are trying for.

Fred

You can also set up templates and Save them in the set positions and then use it at will with any choices of images.

Thanks Terry/Fred

Many thanks for the speedy response!

I think Terry has clarified what I was fumbling to do. So I still need to go to the page editor to tweak the position. It would be good if there were a more direct way of doing this. Having taken the effort to put a (complex) layout together, it seems a shame to then have to tweak things in edit page. What would be neat actually, is a drag and drop that when hovered over an existing photo would replace it keeping the same dimensions and position etc...

best,

David

Make a template so the positions are locked in and save it.
Then you can change the images at will with no fuss or trouble.

Ah - thanks Fred. Templates seem to have passed me by! Seems like that is the best approach for what I need.

I had a brainwave, a better method using templates  Shocked
If you have a set of images in the queue and want to replace one exactly in the same position, size & crop on or off, this works, just tried it.
Save the set as a LAYOUT with a suitable name.
Clear the queue
From the Print Properties menu choose Custom-Layout and select your layout.
This will load the queue again with all the images but in a Template.
Remove the unwanted image using the red button on the image; this will leave behind a red template.
Drag the replacement image to the red template - done!
The only adjustment that may be required in the page editor is the position of any crop on the crop tab.

If you want to re-use that template with a new set of images, remove each image individually with the red button and save as a layout with a new name. Remember, to use a saved template it's Print Properties - Custom - Layout.

Photo substitution is easier than you think.  Click on the "Queue" tab lower right and then click on the print on the page you want to replace.  The associated file in the queue will be highlighted so you can easily see which file in the queue belongs to that print.  Then just take your new thumbnail, drag it, and drop it on the highlighted filename in the queue.  Dropping a thumbnail on a file NAME in the queue replaces the file (print) but keeps all other attributes like size, placement, borders, etc. the same.
