Title: Test Strip function - how to rotate images?
Post by: clinchfield on December 12, 2020, 09:03:15 PM
I've watched the video "teststrip" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yby04h2K-zo several times and I must be missing something. In that video, Fred is able to get two separate images on one sheet of paper at the desired image size.

I thought I have followed the video step-by-step, but I have not been successful. Here's what I've done:

Paper orientation is portrait, both images are portrait.

Under Printers and Settings I set the paper size to 8.5 x 11. I add my two images by clicking on the plus sign on the thumbnails and have chosen Fit to Page and Crop Scissors on.

Then I go to the Full Page Editor and click the Test Strip icon until the image size is 5.12 x 6.84 and repeat for the second image but only one image appears on the page. It's not until I make them 3.28 x 4.38 do they both appear at the same time (side-by-side).

If I could get them to rotate they would both fit on the paper at 5.12 wide. I have tried setting the paper to Landscape but when I do so, the images rotate also - which leaves me with the same issue, except in the other direction. I have tried this with auto rotate on and off.

I would be grateful if someone could point out what I'm doing wrong. Thanks.

What placement method are you using?  Use one of the Intelli options such as IntelliCenter.  When I do that, I click the test strip button twice, go to the next page and click test strip twice on the second print, and both appear on one page: both prints are 6.84 x 5.12 inches.

Regards,
Mike

It wasn't your fault. That video was made using a version that had not had the various placement options installed yet.
Your question was good for everyone.

I had tried it with IntelliCenter and IntelliSpace. It wasn't until I turned Auto Cropping OFF that I could successfully fit the two images on one sheet. That confuses me because the video says to turn the scissors on.

It can't rotate unless there's enough room, Simple example.
First screen snap 079 is showing an image, crop scissor on. with Qimage told to make an 8 x 10.
Next  screen snap 080, is showing crop scissor off, and I used a square image for effect, could be any image with less than a 5:4 aspect ratio. OU will present with its native aspect ratio. In the example: 4.75 x 4.75.

So in screen snap 081, now that there's room, the image will rotate.

Assuming both of your prints are 5.12 x 6.84, two will fit on a page as long as you have enough printable area and you don't have the new auto-rotate button in the off position.  The page size (printable area) is listed above the live view: the length of the paper must be at least 10.24 inches to fit two 5.12 x 6.84 per page.  Also check the auto-rotate button (next to the crop button on the Prints tab) and make sure auto-rotate is on (button is highlighted).  If auto-rotate is off, it won't rotate your portrait prints automatically because it will by trying to keep them in the upright orientation.

Fred and Mike, thank you both for your help - I appreciate it.
