Have just had a battle trying to place text on a border so that it fits the depth of one of the borders.
The Page Editor doesn't have the ability to zoom in to see exactly where the text fits, but further to that, where the text appears to be in the Page Editor isn't where it finishes on the print.
The print to file and the print preview show the same result, the text is lower than it appears in the Page Editor, but now the print is exiting the front of the printer, I can see the text on the print is slightly lower again.
It would be handy to be able to zoom in to see where the precise top and bottom of the text are, and have that replicated on the print.
If you zoom into the attached you should see what I'm trying to achieve and the difference in the Page Editor.
Am I expecting too much??

Regards,

John

Hi John,
The thought that crosses my mind is the scaling factor.
The screen has to show a 10 pt type and the paper print text depends on the print size. When the type resizes for paper, sometimes it cannot be exactly in the same place.
Not 100% positive, but I remember this question was asked before.
Maybe someone remembers better than I?
I added two screen snaps to show you that text at 10 point on 8 x 10 automatically changes to 19 point type when I change the print size to 13 x 19; and this is still screen images.

I'll try to find a better answer.

Thanks Fred.
I think the other similar question was mine re the Image Stamp.
You said something similar then.
It's not so much a concern about the size of the text which I don't think has changed, it's more the vertical positioning.
It drops down lower when print previewed or printed to file, and a touch further when printed.
It's not possible to have the page appear larger in the Page Editor is it? That is to occupy more of the screen.

John, I was playing here and I might have found a way to magnify the area.
I set up my mats (borders) in Page editor and added text. Positioned the text. See snap 108 below.
Then I did a Print to File, BUT with a check in the RIP box. That makes the size match. Now I took that Print to File image which should be called Template.jpg, and placed it in the queue.same size as the original.
I now have identical images; my raw file with the added mat and text, and the JPG I made in Print to file.See snap 106
Both are the same size as I get the same readings with either image, see snap 109.

Now place the template.jpg into the page editor, and use the TEST STRIP TOOL to magnify the text area so you can see it better. See snap 110.

Maybe Mike or someone will have a better idea.

Fred

Hi John,
I sometimes place text in a border and don't usually have a problem.

If it's a tight fit I will check it in Print Preview (driver setting) with the magnify feature (Epson) in the View menu.
I've just done some experimenting with a 5mm (0.2") border on an A3 print with 14 point Ariel text.

The first screen shot below is from the page editor, note the position of the blue dot just above and touching the image edge.
You can change it's position relative to the print by holding the mouse pointer on the dot and using the arrow keys. This moves the print up or down but by a very small amount and leaves the text in position relative to the page.

The second screen shot is from the print preview using the magnify feature.

I need to reply on this one since you both have tried to help.
I have just done tests on A4 with uneven borders with no apparent problem with positioning in the Page Editor matching the print to file and Epson print preview.
The only comment is the preview page shows the text perceptibly lower which isn't a real problem.
Back to the A3+ job of a couple of days ago again and the problem of significant vertical variation persists.
Fred, it probably simpler to just run the print preview zoom to make sure I'm happy with the positioning.
Terry, I cannot replicate your method of moving the image. When I left click and hold on the blue text dot and press an up or down arrow, the image flashes on & off continually, but nothing shifts. Have tried hovering the pointer with the arrow as well with no result.
One thing I have noticed with the A3+ job is that in the Page Editor, when I grab the blue dot and pull down, no change is apparent, the text seems to stay put, until I release the mouse, then the drag result shows. This makes positioning clumsy/frustrating.
The image is a 58 Mb tiff. The system has 16G RAM onboard.

I think that happens because the print fills the vertical printable area so it has nowhere to go.
